I've had extended family in Redondo Beach since before I was born, lived there for 6mos in my 20's, and I only have two things to add.

1) People in Greater LA are stupid. Just dumb, coming from NYC be prepared to drop your IQ 20pts just to fit in. Hand to Gawd, people in LA are just idiots.

2) Get your motorcycle license. Even if you can't/don't want the hassle of dealing with a bike, get a 600cc+ maxi scooter. You've never known traffic until you need to get somewhere in LA. And Cali is the only state in the Union that allows lane splitting

And the roads are filled with idiots.

I grew up near NY, and lived in California 15 years.

People from the East Coast (esp Boston NY) are signficantly more sophisticated about art, culture ( except of course movies) and philosophical stuff.

TECHNOLOGY wise California is leading the way, but in depth of culture it's behind. Playing my weird, minimalist music got a good response in NY, but in California it was like they were waiting for Guns 'n' Roses to start.

GNR were great, but California's into the surface.
LA is trackless, it seems like there's hundreds of square miles of suburbs that are all indistibnguishable, I guess rents are somewhat lower.

And yes you can lane-split but you shoudl REALLY know what you're doing and shouldn't ride a motorcycle if you are in a rush or tired anyway.

I've gotten in two accidents that way/

If you DO lane split, be aware that it is signficantly more dangerous when cars are moving slowly than when they are stopped.

People do what I call "irritation lane changes", lane changes without signaling and if you are coming by at 25 and they zig into you path at 5 MPH, well, welcome to my accident story.

However, if they are stopped there is more chance they will open a door.

That could be picturesque.

I try not to go more than about 15MPH faster than the cars I'm passing. If they are going 5-10 MPH that means you're at 20-30 and will be much more pleasant than inching along with them. And stop and go traffic sucks because you have to STOP. With a MC you usually can just slow down and start lane splitting.

But the good thing is it's never too cold to ride a MC in LA if you've got good rain clothes. That means you can always get where you're going without help from anyone, even if it is only at 25 MPH.

..and riding through the mountain roads and hills under the cool California moon on a Harley, well... New Yorkers never find out what that's like.

There's a sense of expansiveness in the West, it's where the people went who didn't quite fit in or wanted MORE.
There's a sense of refinement and healthy cynicism in NY that California necessarily lacks.

I wonder how many people go BACK. My guess is not many. If I was rich I might, I have enough trouble paying California rents. Why pay MORE money to freeze and not get to nature as much?

Comparing whether people are smarter in California or in the eastern United States is really like comparing apples to oranges. It's a completely different mentality which has its pluses and minuses. Here in the D.C. area, which is supposed to be one of the wealthiest and most well educated in the United States, there are more than enough really stupid people. If you don't think so, you haven't spent enough time here.

Lots of good advice in this thread. Agree with most of it. My $.02

Manhattan women are huge sluts compared to LA. In LA, they're either looking for guys who can do something for them, or not looking for much at all.

Handsome, successful men exist in both cities. However in NYC it actually gets you points. In LA, not so much. Got looks, money, and game? LA women don't really care. More interesting & valuable are fame, industry connections, or a vibrant social circle.

I get laid almost every week living in Manhattan. In LA, maybe once a month, if that. It's a huge difference in receptiveness & attitude, using the same game.

Bottom line, NYC better for girls. By a lot.

To add on to this, Basil Ransom and I were discussing this last night while out at the Santa Monica pub crawl - what goes through these girls' minds?

Most of them are working absolute dead-end jobs as waitresses and trying to make it in the industry. On paper, they should be happy going out with well dressed, successful, and charming guys.

But Courage nailed it. They're all holding out in the hopes that they're the lucky .5% who lands with a producer or someone with connections who can advance their career.

One other thing to note about LA, and California in general - the 1:30am last call, 2 am closing time. Meaning that by 11:30pm most of the crowds are sloshed and stumbling around, and by 1:00am are out searching for greasy Mexican food. Contrast that to later nights almost anywhere in the world, where you have more time to find the best spot for the night, work greater leads, and you (and girls) are likely to be relatively more sober due to pacing your drinking.

It's nice to see so many LA residents in this thread chiming in to say something.

Have any of you guys met up with other forum members. I met with a few already and come new years I'm trying to get the momentum going again with LA forum members meeting up to talk game, life, health, etc..

And yes the train is extending to the Santa Monica Promenade.

So you can easily game girls at the beach in the daytime and bring them to downtown LA at night.

My primary game spots are Venice/Santa Monica Beach, Universities/College Campuses on the West side, and Hollywood. I've been doing it for years now and you get a great feel for what day and time will yield you the best results and what type of girls frequent those places. I also established a way to get free parking every time I go there to be more efficient to where I am gaming and dating girls for free - less than $10. I can't do that in downtown LA as you have to pay for parking practically everywhere.

Hollywood

I'm over the pretentious clubs with huge lines. I'm more into bars/lounges/rooftops/events, etc.

Can't recommend Los Feliz for night game, its a day spot, place to live and maybe date spot in a restaurant.

DTLA- Perch, Edison.

Santa Monica/Culver City- Blind Barber (Culver)

One interesting spot that I saw that might be a great date spot is Ocean Prime in Beverly Hills. I had a dinner there recently and noticed they have a kickass patio with live music a few days per week.

Thanks. Since i only have a few nights to go out, i'll have to choose wisely. I already had those on my dtla list. Also have association, library bar, sixth street tavern, standard hotel, and mrs. fish. I might check out Exchange as well.

To me, all of Culver City is the same. You live somewhere off Venice or Washington Blvd and its kind of dark and gloomy everywhere. Only exception is if you live near downtown Culver, but even then, I'm not the biggest fan of that area though, the crowds seem very bridge and tunnel.

You already have good advice in this thread so i'll just add this:

1. Only move to LA if you are somehow connected to ENTERTAINMENT. That doesn't
mean you have to be an actor/writer. There are many other careers that are either
directly or indirectly connected to that world.

2. The city is incredibly transactional and you better place yourself in a strategic
position where you have things to offer.

These two points are fare more important than justing having your standard 150k+ and being good looking.
