Advice on where to spend several weeks to a month in Central/South America/Caribbean?
I haven't really been anywhere outside the continental US in many years, and if the New England winter gets brutal this year I'd like to escape for a while.

I have some vacation time available and I'd like to get away for several weeks. Any suggestions on someplace (cheap!) to go? And the minimum bankroll required to have a good time?

I was thinking about Puerto Rico, but in looking over some of the threads it seems to get slammed here.

If any further specific information about my requirements is needed to give a more definitive answer, please let me know what you need. Being a decent place to meet women should be obvious...Blush

How much money do you have to spend?

What could I pull off for a month at the outside and 3k?

I know enough conversational Spanish to get by.

RE: Advice on where to spend several weeks
Shouldn't be hard to live anywhere for 3k if you play your cards right and rent a studio apartment for 1k or less. A few things are coming up you might want to consider.

For partying:
You have the carnival in Rio in February
and also the Carnival of Barranquilla in February.
Apartments will run you 1k-1.5k. Quilla may be slightly less.

For relaxing and settling down with a few women:
Cali, Colombia
Apartment will run you $500

For partying, women, and hanging with forum members
Bogota, Colombia
Apartment will run you $750

If it was me, this what I would do at this point.

Meet the hottest girl you can find on Colombian Cupid, fly into Santa Marta, fly her into Santa Marta as well. Get all your groceries and take a taxi. There is private cabin 20 min out of Parque Tayrona on the beach. You can collect coconuts, grill shish kabobs on a firepit, and fuck on the beach all you want without a care in the world. It doesn't get any better than that. No cell phones, no computer, no electricity other than solar power.
