Fuck it's 2 am not sure if I should post this here, but tonight (Halloween) two black dudes tried to jump me, I'm kind of pissed at myself because I feel like my martial arts training didn't do much for me, but in my defense I got sucker punched pretty bad.
This is how it went down, a car with 4 buffed up black dudes pulls into the ally where there are food trucks. Two of the guys are talking shit, getting into each others' faces and shoving each other, I'm just a bystander in a group of people. I immediately recognize one of the guys who is a local MMA fighter who fights at casinos and trains at the other MMA gym in my town which is more cage fight oriented. The other guy I don't know but he looked like a huge jacked up body builder like 5 ft. 10 in. but 220 lbs of muscle.
So all of a sudden after the bodybuilder dude and the MMA guy are shoving each other, the bodybuilder straight up sucker punches some other black dude with a full on haymaker that appears to come out of no where and that guy gets straight knocked unconscious and falls and hits the ground like a sack of potatoes. It didn't look like he had anything to do with the conflict, so I said "damn that was a sucker punch if I've ever seen one", next thing I know the black dude rushes me from the side, swings a haymaker sucker punch that lands and hits me in the eye, then throws a flurry of punches.
I was totally caught off guard and never saw it coming all I could do was try to raise my hands up to cover my face, I was dressed up as the character Rayden from Mortal Combat and was wearing one of those big round Vietnamese farmer hats, which in the melee got pulled down and covered my eyes so I momentarily couldn't see.
All I knew was that I got hit hard and my eye was closing up and I had a roided out dude swinging at me, I regained my composure and field of vision and next thing I know his buddy the MMA guy who he was originally beefing with is throwing round house kicks at me, I back up and basically retreat then dip into the ally, and fortunately they didn't chase me.
I got hit so fast I didn't have time to react, but in a matter of seconds I realized my eye was fucked, but still had those thoughts that I've trained for this I can take this guy if I need to, but also thought of being in a public place with the potential for the cops to show at any second and arrest me without a thought. Once I realized that his MMA buddy was also attacking me, I knew there was no way in fuck I was going to fight both of them.
On top of that they had two other huge buffed up black dudes with them, one who looked thugged out as fuck with mad tats, the other I think may train and possibly even coach at the other MMA gym. Long story short I was thinking get the fuck out of there, if I was one on one I'd take the buffed up dude who sucker punched me, and maybe do alright against MMA guy, but there was no way I was going to try to fuck with two or more of them. Worst case scenario I could've had all 4 stomping me on the ground sending me to the hospital.
As it stands now I for sure am going to have a welted up black eye, and I thought I evaded all the round house kicks, but my right leg has a pretty nasty welt on it and the skin is broken and red so I think it's safe to say that one of those kicks landed.
It fucking sucks and while in reality my training probably did kick in, in so far as that I covered when getting punched and used my foot work to get out of there, but I feel like it wasn't enough. Then again, no matter how good you may be there is always the element of surprise and I for sure didn't see that punch coming.
I guess the take away for me is that in the future I should just shut up and not say a damn word or just get out of there and not be a spectator no matter how entertaining street fights can be to watch on a certain level. I also lost a shit ton of respect for that MMA guy and his gym that he trains at.
If the owners and instructors at my martial arts academy found out one of their students pulled that shit in the streets they'd be banned, the founder of the academy has told me that straight up, what he teaches is for self defense situations only and not to be used to attack people in the street.
That's one thing that I like better about traditional martial arts better they teach you that certain level of self control and respect for the art form and other people in general, some of these cage fighter guys are just animals who want to beat someone down regardless of circumstance.
