The promising kid is only useful for as long as he can sink that 20 footer or tackle a ball carrier behind the line of scrimmage. Basically you are disposable and replaceable, and the NCAA will not let you forget it.

This is even worse than I thought the situation was, in this context what these guys did was even more ballsy. College students should really strike to get paid , I'm surprised they haven't done it already. They must be getting some money/gifts under the table or something to join certain universities or something.

Fuck that.

These kids, black and white, are earning the equivalent of ~$25,000 per year.

I commend the young men for taking a stand against the racism. They understand the power that they have to affect change on campus.

Football players should be striking to get paid as well though. Still don't get how the Universities get away with it.

The get away with it because they give poor minority kids a free education, food and housing, while also providing a chance for the kids to remove themselves from the ghetto. Simutionusly while everyone else takes out student loans and busts tables at chili's.

Not much else they deserve in my opinion.

What a ridiculous straw-man. What did this strike have to do with unpaid medical bills and tuition? #Zilch

Where was the racism that was being perpetuated by the school or president? From what I read, one black guy walking on campus was called a nagger by some people in an unidentified truck. It may not have even been students there, so how is that reflective of anyone working at the college? And how could any university president do anything to prevent that happening anywhere in the world? And someone drew a shit swastika in a bathroom, so other than being disgusting, why does that really matter? That's the whole problem, there's no real racism at play here, it's speculation and feelings taking the place of evidence and reality.

How much does the school president earn?

How much does Lou Saban earn?

How much does Mike Krzyzewksi earn?

Compared to the amount of revenue the players bring in, the scholarship isn't much.

I also commend the young men for taking a stand, I wish more would do the same.

What's most interesting is how a group of black football players were able to use the Swastika as the rallying cry. I guess now that the Confederate flags have been pretty much removed everywhere they needed to take another culture's symbol of oppression.

How much does anything you just wrote apply to this situation?

The program makes $80 million a year, mostly from ticket sales, rich boosters, and TV deals. These athletes are already incredibly privileged and spoiled. The $25,000/year is just the tuition/room and board. They get free clothes, school supplies, tutors that basically do all of their school work for them, free travel and lodging, free meal and snack benefits, an incredible amount of connections, and a degree. That means 18 and 19 year olds are earning more than most Americans because they're good at a ball game and people like to see them play because of the names on the FRONT of their jerseys, not the back.

I don't think universities should, all of a sudden, become professional sports franchises who will put academics and research even more on the back-burner. That's certainly not what society needs, in my opinion.

They don't get paid to go to school.

They get a "free" education as long as they "perform".

I don't know whether this is true, but I've heard this from more than one sports radio commentator: Right now, the biggest obstacle to paying college athletes is Title IX. If you pay male football players a certain amount, you'll have to also play the women's field hockey players the same amount, (even though the football team generates orders-of-magnitude more money than the field hockey team).

That's a valid point, but if they're really worried about that I'd recommend not playing football. Most of the thousands upon thousands of college football players have viewed their four years as an incredible experience.

Among those that are on the side of paying college athletes, that's definitely the #1 issue. If you pay the once in a generation stud QB $X, then the SJWs will demand that Barbara, the dyke first basemen for the softball team deserves just as much.

Where have you been? They ceased to be about academics once they got in bed with corporations decade's ago. Ever bother looking at the logo's especially during bowl season? Or is your attention just focused on the cheerleaders? These coaches have millions of dollar's coming in from shoe contracts on top of a salary.

Education is just the pretty wallpaper, distracting you from the ugly furniture

Why do you think these kids do the mandatory one year in college and then head straight to the NBA!

The man was basically forced out of his position because he couldn't stop a couple isolated incidents of racism, and people here are debating whether or not you should get paid to throw a ball around.

Anyhow, what was the guy supposed to do? Create a policy that says "students who draw swastikas with their own shit will be expelled"?

These college kids live in a fantasy world where a blatant act of racism being grounds for expulsion isn't enough. It's the CULTURE of it, and Wolfe was expected to change the culture of the entire university?

Racism happens. Rape happens. We can condemn it and we can punish it, but we'll never be able to erase it

RE: Missouri football players sitting out games until President resigns
I see this as a complete win for political correctness and SJWs.

A collection of offended college athletes now have proven that they can call the shots.

This is not going to be the end. This is only going to be the beginning.

There already is a reign of PC terror on campuses now with regard to non-existent "rape culture", and now we can add to that a reign of terror over anyone making a minority feel bad for any reason.

College football players are already molly-coddled, semi-literate spoiled children. And now it's going to be even worse.

This president was given a phone call, I'm sure, by the Board of Trustees or the Chancellor or whoever rules the roost, and told that he had to go.

And instead of fighting and taking a stand against the SJW bullying and bullshit, he caved. What a worthless sack of shit, a complete pussy. He should have fought it out to the bitter end. Make them fire him. Then sue everyone. Go on the attack against the scum.

This guy did nothing wrong as far as I can see.

I don't see these athletes' grievances as anything but lame. "Someone called me a name" or "Someone did mean things to me."

For Christ's sake, fuck off and grow up.

This is about power and control, not about "racism." If anything the system has bent over backwards and bent the rules 1000 ways to accommodate these athletes.

They are not victims, but aggressors.

What will be next? Here's what:

*More bending over backward to kiss SJW ass
*More sensitivity training
*More indoctrination
*More attacking of whites to make them feel marginalized and guilt-ridden from birth
*More unearned special privileges and favoritism for minority groups.

.

Your outline is basically correct, but it didn't go down like that.

What first happened was a graduate student named Jonathan Butler asked the football team to boycott their games. And then he threatened a hunger strike until the University President stepped down.

Interested members can play the Anonymous Bosch inspired game, "Guess What The Guy Looks Like" - then google "Jonathan Butler Hunger Strike" to see whether you were correct.

(If anyone else could post pictures, I'd appreciate it. I'm at work and cannot put in the time.)

Are you trolling? Or being sarcastic?

Where was the racism that was being perpetuated by the school or president? From what I read, one black guy walking on campus was called a nagger by some people in an unidentified truck. It may not have even been students there, so how is that reflective of anyone working at the college? And how could any university president do anything to prevent that happening anywhere in the world? And someone drew a shit swastika in a bathroom, so other than being disgusting, why does that really matter? That's the whole problem, there's no real racism at play here, it's speculation and feelings taking the place of evidence and reality.

You can't legislate what people feel in their hearts. People are going to have racist thoughts all they want BUT you can affect how people act and conduct themselves. A president of a University needs to do all he can to let the racists know that those actions will not be tolerated because there will be repercussions. What those repercussions will be? Depends on each case. You have to set a tone and implent change. The president was incompetent and just didn't care.

I also want to say this. There will be people(who may be racist themselves) who will be angry that a group of Black men we're able to wake up and use their collective power to influence change in their University. There is this attitude of some folks who think that the students should be good boys and play your football game. Basically be a good negro. The football students are the cash cows of the University and they hurt the pockets of the University with their actions. If they didn't step up, nothing would change.

Hunger strike? Honorable but a laughable tactic.

A march on campus? No one cares.

Hmm...but a boycott of a Football game which would lead to a 1 million dollar payout. Now you have our attention.

You don't get it. If you celebrate the "change" that Jonathan Butler created, don't yell at me when (in short order), few universities exist because no one wants to risk being shouted down by the likes of Jonathan Butler.
