So I am in Boston area on business earlier this week, and I had to stay an extra night at the hotel, so had to extend my reservation. I am back from a client dinner, it's 8:30, I'm exhausted, and I go the front desk. Two clerks are busy, but a third steps up...and it is this beautiful blond babe, a fantastic skin, blue eyes, model thin body.

"Can I help you."

The accent is subtle but unmistakable. Southern. It's not something you hear often in Massachusetts.

After we start taking care of extending my reservation, I switch to game mode.

"You must be an alien."
Great look from her...quizzical yet concerned. Perfect.
"You know, the accent. I'd say Georgia."
She giggles, looks down.
"Tennesee, in fact."
"So what has got you trapped up here?"
Laughs again...shrinks her shoulders down.
"Well, I manage the hotel."

Wow, this is great. She is not just an ordinary clerk, but an executive. Yet she is getting subservient as I bombard her with the negs.

Now at this point, it's easy to move right into Beta mode, with "Wow, that's impressive, and you look so young!" And she did look very young. My guess was late 20s, early 30s.

Players out there, don't be tempted to compliment.

"So, you're climbing the corporate ladder. Any callouses on those hands?"

Again, she giggles, shrinks her shoulders. If we weren't divided by the desk, I would have asked to see those hands, and touch them. It would have been a great first kino.

We make some small talk, and conclude our business.

I didn't pursue it any further, I had some work to do that evening and just didn't have the energy. And then there was someone behind me and so had to scoot. I should have tried to do something for the next night, but these business trips are so demanding I fall into bed at 10 o'clock.

But I wanted to share with the board how you should ALWAYS practice your game. Even if you have no intention to take it anywhere at that time. Work the principles. It's batting practice. Get in your swings. All the time.

couldn't agree more. changing my mindset to this has helped me tremendously.

You handled it well. Knowing even a little bit about the hospitality industry is huge, I try to run game on staff whenever possible if I'm in a restaurant/hotel/bar too. Good story.

Alas, that wouldn't have worked because I wasn't in Boston proper but in kind of a shitty town about 25 minutes outside of Boston -- a place of malls and tract houses and light industry -- an area that she probably knew more about than I did.

But yeah, in retrospect I should have pushed more. One possible option might have been:

"You know, I am a consultant who helps businesses succeed. So who is your toughest competitor here?"
Presumably she says "Hotel X"
"So why don't you and I do some market research and evaluate their bar."

With hotel / revenue managers, use "competitive set" - it'll look like you know what you're talking about.

I assumed that. You're from out of town. To you 25mi away is still Boston.

Talking to a girl and being smooth are one thing but, Getting past the choke point is how bangs happen. You may not see her again. Now..If it's the girl at the local grocery that you see all the time that's one thing but, you have to push that little extra when it's unknown. Multiply that by two if you're out of town. She may think that it's normal and casual for people just to hang out where you're from.

I agree with el-mech here, it's just that:

- they're hired guns. a part of me thinks that they're being polite to you as a customer opposed to being interested in you as a man.
- such opportunities are usually time constrained. in my head, mechanico's suggestion of closing right after tenderman's initial dialogue is a case of closing too soon. wouldn't rambling a bit longer solidify the connection and increase the chance of her accepting the offer to go out?

I went to buy a tie last night, and I got three saleswomen all invested into my story about how I'm taking a girl out tonight and I showed them the picture Mixx attached a day ago saying 'this is the look I'm going for.' They loved it, and got busy showing me all the patterns they had. I asked them questions like 'what color would like on a man' and 'Imagine I'm a man that's taking you out tonight, and I'm not afraid of standing out - what color tie I should pick. They all picked a deep purple one. They said 'I wish a man would dress up for me' I stuck around till closing time, bought more ties than I needed and was told to come back and tell them how my date went.

They were a bit older, and I felt the mutual rapport - I 'felt' they dug my vibe. But a part of me thinks they were 'gaming me' to flatter me and get me to buy more shit.

I'd like to break through this hired-gun conundrum.

By the way, I don't get to say this much but, e-mech, gmac, tenderman, thanks you guys for contributing to this thread and the board. I read everyone of your posts and do my best to adopt the right mindset.

How interesting. I was at a local hotel bar and ran some trial game on the bartender, a blond lady close to my age. I didn't push it too much as I noticed a big hunk of a diamond on her finger, but she made for some good training just the same.
