Surprised?
I wasn't.

Let check out the fact, from the verdict (in Hebrew)

Facts:
1. The couple is Catholic. Married in 2007 and had a daughter in 2008.
I know you guys don't consider it much, but in Israel it is significant.
Catholics are Arabs. They are usually highly conservative.
2. In 2010 the father moved out and they started the divorce process.
In 2013, since the daughter was under the age of 6, the mother got custody.
3. The father is living with another women and they are expecting.

The father claims that the mother is a slut (not in those words) and that she does not set boundaries to her daughter. He also claims that the mother is in major debt, also to lawn-sharks.

The mother claimed that the father wanted proof in the past, that the child is his. Also, that he does not spend time with the daughter.

3 years ago, the social worker thought that the mother is a good enough nurturing parent (the child was about 3 years of age). It was also stated that when the child is with her father, the grandmother is the primary caretaker.

Recently, the social worker went to check how the family is doing.
I'll use the joke: "In a word - GOOD. In 2 words - NOT GOOD".

It seems that the mother hardly spends time with her daughter. She leaves her at an after-school daycare till 19:00, does not set boundaries and sleeps with her daughter in the same bed.
The social worker stated in her report, that at the time the child needed nurturing, but now it needs more boundaries.

Imagine that!
A social worker who actually understands child psychology.


Also, it seems that the mother now has a reputation of a slut. In their society, this could be a burden on the child. Socially.

The court thought differently.
The court established that the daughter is more attached to her mother. So it decided that only if there is an actual danger to the child, it will be removed from her mother's custody.
The court thinks that "spoiling the child might be an emotional risk. But we are not there yet".

To sum it up:
We have a conservative father, who lack "modern communication skills" with his daughter. He believes and has provided some evidence that the mother is a slut (major problem when you are conservative, less of an issue if you are a judge).
On the other side we have a single mother, which spoils her child and spends less time with her.

Tough choice, right?

Wrong!
From the verdict I learned that the father is angry with the mother. I accept. However, in conservative society the father does not take part in raising the daughter. That is one thing the judge overlooked.
So the father uses other females in the family to raise a daughter. That sounds like an actual conservative family. The male is the provider and the female take charge of raising the small children.

BTW
If they were Muslim, the father would get custody. That the "law".

Also, we understand that the child is probably lost. It will grow to be an unstable women. Thanks MOM!
