If you don't have game, Chiang Mai is the worst city for you to go to.

RE: YMG does Chiang Mai
I met this older polish guy yesterday and he has been a perpetual traveler for like 25 years.

He told me I should stay at Veerachai Court if I'm in Chiang Mai for more than a month (5000baht/month). Got internet, aircon, ensuite, cleaning service etc. Looks good on the website and from what he recommended, but I found mixed reviews on the internet.

Where are you staying YMG? Have you maybe checked out Veerachai Court by any chance?

Cheers

Could you elaborate on this YMG? What's the actual hurdle?

Vicious, PMed you.

Bface, I have not checked that spot out.

When I said "worst city to go to" I was talking about within Thailand, and comparing it to the other major destinations such as:

-Bangkok
-Phuket
-Pattaya
-Samui

The girls and culture are significantly more conservative up here, although if you have decent game you will definitely get laid. I've noticed that Indian and Black dudes do significantly less well compared to White/Asian guys here. Again, game overcomes all obstacles.

Hi Rah,

No, or at least not anymore.

Fortunately I missed the entire flood situation while I was in Phuket and then in Chiang Mai. I arrived in Chiang Mai immediately after the flood situation had been resolved here.

My stamina is terrible. I've gotten back into training after a 3 week hiatus due to injury and sickness.

I gotta start running again. I've noticed that when I do a 2-3 mile run every day, every single other aspect of my athletic performance skyrockets.

Thanks for the updates. Have you seen any other popular activities in CM that are good for getting in shape?

Gringoed, I'm not really sure. The gym at which I'm currently training is going to have submission wrestling and grappling in addition to muay thai.

This girl is Thai.

I have not really seen any attractive European girls in Chiang Mai. Many more in the islands.

Why do you ask?

Nothing like running a few miles a day for keeping your Stamina up and general well being!

RE: YMG does Chiang Mai
I lived in Chiang Mai for the past 3 years and am now traveling through Vietnam, and I must admit I'd rather be in Chiang Mai right now. I left because I somehow felt guilty for being in the same place for so long and not seeing more of Southeast Asia (lol) and mostly because Chiang Mai is obviously not on the ocean, which drove me a bit crazy.

But as a place to live, a home base, it is the nuts. I stayed pretty far off the tourist trail and made good friends with a group of university students who I've had some of the best times of my life with.

I'll back up what YMG said about it being more difficult for white guys though, and I am a white guy. If you want to frequent the tourist areas and of course girlie bars, it falls in your lap, but if you want to hit up middle class/high society spots like Warm-up, Fine Thanks, Fashion House (closed I think) Fabrique, and such than it's a completely different ball game (some of the women in these establishments are out of this world hot- maybe not based on body but that sexy and glamorous look).

I'm not some big player but I've always held my own when it comes to women. In Chiang Mai, I was really out of my element. Sure, I got play, but I feel like the quality of the women I pulled back in the states was quite a bit higher...and that's not really what we have in mind when on the international scene, is it?

The main problem as I understand it is that there is a real stereotype about women who date white guys - most are considered prostitutes or gold diggers - and due to the complete duds most tourists hang with when they go there I can see why.

This isn't Bangkok and is a small city comparably. It's actually quite big, but that's the feeling; you see see the same people over and over when you've been around for a while. For that reason, the women are a little more conscious of their rep than in BKK. The women are expected to act a certain way, and even if they don't, they like to keep up that front.

I met guys from other Asian countries or Asian/Americans who did just fine. The vast majority of women dating white guys were a joke, on one level or another.

Sorry to grind the race card even harder, but this was my experience, even if I did love living there.

And oh yea, I second that European chicks there aren't much to look at either as well.

@gringoed
There are a couple decent gyms in Chiang Mai that are not focused on MMA. The nicest (but a ripoff for short-term memberships) is California Fitness in Airport Plaza Mall. If you're into swimming, they've got an olympic size swimming pool at the 700 year stadium but a shitty weight room. They've also got a driving range, hiking trails, shooting range, b-ball courts and other activities. Another huge pool can be found at CMU.

My favorite gym for plush pool and somewhat decent weight room is on the 5th floor of Dangtawan Hotel. Jacuzzi tub, steam rooms, saunas, yoga, the works...And when doing laps in the big L-shaped pool it feels like you're working out in a resort. Nice.

Other gyms can be found in the Chiang Mai Lotus (ok but nice pool) and Hillside Condo 4.

YMG - you've obviously done more traveling than I have. Any tips on a "Chiang Mai by the sea?" lol But where the dating scene is more welcoming to Caucasians (no pay to play for me)? That's essentially what I"m looking for at the moment...Anyone else feel free to chime in as well.

cheers

Hey Beyond Borders,

I don't understand what you are asking me. You want to find a beach town similar to Chiang Mai where the chicks will like you?

My kneejerk reaction was Boracay for some reason, even though that's not Thailand.

A handful of rooshv members have already bought tickets to come to Chiang Mai and train at Team Quest. Most of you guys I already know or have been corresponding with for a long time already.

I've got my hands full with three personal product launches and then this Singapore startup, so I'm not going to be able to go out much, sorry guys. Obviously we'll still see each other in training and go get meals, maybe run some day game or something. But I'm absolutely not in party mode right now.

"where the chicks will like you..." Your response comes across as pretty condascending...but yeah, I'm looking for a chiang mai by the sea. Not too wrapped up in the dating scene as there are women to date everywhere, but yeah, a crowd that's a little more open to the my ethninticity would certainly not be an unnatractive plus.

I thought this was a forum where people exchanged ideas about living internationally and yeah getting play while you're at it - not sure why you had to throw your subtle clown in there... Borocay is not what I had in mind at all, but that's neither here nor there.

Thanks, man. Pretty sure I can figure this one out on my own. Cheers

Oh man, Beyond Borders, I definitely did not mean any condescension. Reading back on my post, I'm still not really sure how it could have come across as demeaning....

I never clown anyone on this forum, just try to give advice when I can.

Sorry if you took it that way, was not my intention.

To answer your question, I'm really not sure. Chiang Mai is a really unique place that is hard to find elsewhere in Thailand. I'm not really a beach guy and was very turned off by Phuket, which is why I left in the first place.

Okay, man - I took it wrong then. My bad. Yeah, I've never been to Phuket at all because I know I'd be turned off by it too. Wasn't expecting an answer out of you, Man - was just throwing it out there to see if anyone had found anything comparable becasue I'm into diving and surfing, etc, and went crazy in CM for that reason.

Will post back eventually if I find something like what I'm looking for but could take years, of course.... Apologize again if I jumped the gun and got sensitive. Maybe a couple too many beers? And my forum ettiuqite could probably use some work.

So there are attractive ones in the islands or there aren't any there? I'm not a big fan of Asian girls but I do want to visit that place and elsewhere in the region.

Yeah, there are some winners on the islands but certainly not crowds of them.

You could definitely pull cuties, but don't expect stunners (venue alone makes this unlikely) - most chicks traveling in near-3rd world countries, knowing they're going to be drinking beer left and right and frollicking in the sand, don't put a ton of effort into their getup, so that makes them look less hot then they would in the club right there.

In my experience though, the hottest chicks from any country don't typically travel too much - they're too caught up in the social life at home. But there are plenty of European and American cuties on the islands if you like laid back chicks, that's for sure. I'm sure they clean up well at home.

Gariell - Vicious, who is Scandie, says that Phuket and the islands apparently have a higher concentration of Scandie chicks. I guess I can vouch for that....sort of....mostly because I just haven't seen any Scandies in Chiang Mai.
