This series has just premiered on Netflix today. And it's really good and addictive.

It's a mix of Breaking Bad, Scarface, The Wire, and Goodfellas which gives a different look at the Colombian Drug Lord. Rather than the Black and White view of the DEA being the "good guys" and the Narcos being the "bad guys". And Wagner Moura's performance as Escobar highlights his ruthlessness and charisma.

10 episodes. Netflix releases whole seasons rather than separate episodes for the viewers to binge watch all the episodes..

I just watched the first episode. It's definitely binge worthy! Pablo is played by Captain Nascimento of Tropa De Elite 1 and 2 (Elite Squad 1 and 2) and seemingly plays an excellent role.

It reminds me of Blow. With that said I get the impression it's going to be a good series but not great. More "Ballers" than "True Detective Season 1."

I binge watched all ten episodes. 4 observations:
1. There is no shortage of fine ass actresses from south of the border.
2. The ending was very disappointing. There was still more story to tell.
3. There were a lot of technical issues in terms of cars and other props that were built long after Escobar was dead. I can forgive their use of newer vehicles in most aspects because it doesn't detract from the story and period correct vehicles can significantly increase your production costs. But seeing someone with a Trijicon ACOG on a M16 was poor attention to detail.
4. The special task force that killed Escobar in '93 was called Searchbloc. In the show, they were disbanded when Escobar went to prison. In reality, they were disbanded after shutting down the Cali cartel several years later. No reason to make that change.

All in all, many shots of firm South American titties that seem to defy gravity. And much better than the trash on commercial TV.

I've just finished watching the first season. I hear there is going to be a second season. Which is needed as as the story is not ended yet. I get the feeling that the second season will be the last one as the first season seems to have spanned about 15 years or so. Poor time lining on the scripts part but I guess they were unsure whether or not the show would be a success. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to the next episodes.

The show is duel language in both English and Spanish (with Spanish subtitles of course) which is a real awesome touch. The amount of ass in the show is a lot and the quality of ass is very high.

I think that is a show that most of members of the forum would enjoy. If you have a few hours watch a couple of episodes and you will not be disappointed.

This version about Pablo Escobar is almost accurate in the plot and the characters accents (Paisa accent which is common in Antioquia, Risaralda and Quindio and some neutral accent which is spoken in Bogota and the towns around this city) . This TV program was produced and aired by Caracol Corporation (A Colombian Broadcaster).

I saw a few chapters of this Netflix series, but I didn't like it because this program seems so cheesy for me.

Awesome series. I'm 8 episodes in and very impressed with the acting, cinematography. My only gripe so far is the guy who plays Murphy seems kind of wooden, they could have found someone better.

Hard to believe what a ruthless bastard Pablo was, going after cops and politicians.

The Spanish version is much better.

I would imagine so, yea. I had no idea the guy playing Pablo is Brazilian, he speaks superb Spanish.

Just finished watching it last night and I've got to say it is well done. I was also disappointed by the ending, was expecting more.

They couldn't have found a better guy than Wagner Moura aka Capitao Nascimento from Elite Squad to play Pablo.

All in all, I'd give it a solid 8/10.

The real name of the search bloc colonel that the colonel in Narcos is based on is Hugo Martinez. I'm thinking he didn't give consent to use his name. He's supposedly a badass in real life and survived numerous assassination attempts (including a car bomb) by the narcos.

Also, the creation of Los Pepes was definitely in part supported by the CIA, with U.S. military surveillance (Centraspike) feeding them intel, search bloc (w/delta force attachment), and DEA compliance. Los Pepes was basically a death squad fully financed by the Cali Cartel but fed information by U.S. government agencies to dismantle Pablo. It's all pretty shady.

There's an even better version, all in Spanish with English subs called Pablo Escobar, el Patron del mal, on Netflix. However, it has 74 episodes so it's a lot more detailed than the abbreviated version for the Gringo market. Just finished watching the first episode and it's very well done.

Highly recommended if you enjoyed the English version.
