My friend had a book called "Nothing to Envy" about North Korea, while he was reading it he would give me samples.

Apparently, there is personal enterprise in North Korea but for some reason it is dominated by women.
So women have a lot of power in that society over their men.

"Bad type" of equality is when it requires women to do actual heavy lifting or shouldering responsibility like men do.

My dad recently passed away and at his memorial my aunt was telling a story about him being drafted for Vietnam. Among other things she said "watching this unfold made me glad that I was not born a man". Not that I want men to win the oppression olympics but I was glad and a little surprised to hear a woman with perspective beyond herself and the sisterhood.

In all seriousness, this has been feminism's endgame. Choosing how equal they want to be without the burden of actually having to do shit.

If feminism were a real ideology, they would be eating this up. Salon writes, "OMG, we are finally fucking equal, NK allows women in required positions." Washington Post says, "End of Patriarchy, Women now required in combat." ESPN states, "Fuck yeah we can actually talk about women finally without killing our ratings."

Instead it's: Well this doesn't benefit me, so this is totes anti-precious me and discriminating cuz feels.

There is always "some reason". North Korea is rather patriarchal in its culture; the reason older/married/non-eligible/non-hot women run the markets is because men are more likely to have government & (especially) military jobs, so those middle-aged women have the necessity and opportunity to engage in private market trading. Eligible (hot) women, as always, do not have to work/sell vegetables for rice/join the military to get resources.
