You can count on Red Pill wisdom in old country music, and blues.

Wow -- it's cool to see someone post Tom T. Hall. He was before my time, but I discovered him through a late night AM radio station I could pick up years ago that came out of Kentucky.

Even though I'm not country-oriented, I count myself as a huge Tom T. fan. His songs are so well-written and sung they fall into that category of music that transcends its genre.

***

My contribution comes courtesy of the '60s group the Beau Brummels. If you've never heard of them, they were a bit like R.E.M. sound-wise.

This song, "It Won't Get Better," is from their 1967 album "Triangle" and has a point-of-view that I think is unique in pop (although it's probably more common in country). It's a cautionary tale from an older guy telling younger dudes that girl-wise, things really don't improve...so you'd better enjoy it now.

I just wish I'd heard this at 19.

Both of those songs are really cool and I had never heard of either before. Thanks.

Women these days think they can shop for a man like they shop for a purse or a pair of shoes. Sorry ladies. It doesn't work that way.

Women are like sandwiches. All men love sandwiches. That's a given. But sandwiches are only good when they're fresh. Nobody wants a day old sandwich. The bread is all soggy and the meat is spoiled.

Waylon Jennings' The Hunger.

They may not have used phrases like "cock carousel", "hypergamy" and "The Wall" back then, but listen to the lyrics and you'll hear the very same ideas. Now we just have a new vocabulary to express what's always been true.

Here's the lyrics:

Quote:They said in her younger days, her beauty was enough to drive men wild
But the hunger in her body then, was not the hunger of some lonely child.

Like a butterfly in springtime, searching every field for loving's sweetest rose
The embrace of many strangers, still could not release her from the hold.

In the backstreets and the bedrooms, all she's found is disappointments bitterly
While the love that she's too often found, was enough to satisfy her needs.

She's older than the years she holds, and aging fast with each day passing by
On a downhill run to nowhere, 'cause the hunger never can be satisfied.

The reflection in her mirror's not the image she remembers in her mind
Her beauty has been eaten by the hunger, and the acid winds of time.

She has danced the tune her demons played, and payed the piper dearly for his song
Empty now of all her pride but still inside, her hunger's just as strong.

This one's easy. Louis Jordan in 1946. Some of the details back then were different, the main message not so much:

"Ovid, in the arms of his lover, had cried out to the midnight horses to gallop slow across the vault of heaven. But Morse was without a lover; and at a quarter to five he got up, made himself a cup of tea."

True.
