Interracial marriages are vastly more mainstream and common there than they are in the states, and more socially acceptable even across class levels. The greater overall level of tolerance for mixed unions in the UK means less controversy, even at the highest socio-economic levels. Not saying that controversy is non-existent, but it certainly not going to be anywhere near the level we see in the USA.

This is not true. Interracial is more mainstream in the U.K. for the lower, middle, and maybe a few upper-middle classes but it's really rare in the upper classes. It's not better than the U.S., it's really the same stuff.

Can't agree with that. I see a substantial difference in the general societal view on unions between blacks and whites between the US and UK. As far as interracial relationships between blacks and whites go, you're not dealing with the same stuff at all. Those unions are much more mainstream in one place than the other, and the level and nature of the controversy surrounding them varies substantial in each place.

I'm speaking from the perspective of a black English male, however, and addressing most directly unions between blacks and whites in the UK. Perhaps that perspective does not encompass the entire spectrum of variation on the topic of interracial unions as a whole.
