I figure there are plenty of veterans lurking throughout the rooshiverse, about time to start something like this.

The purpose of this thread is to share amusing, harrowing, disturbing or otherwise interesting stories from your time in. In other words, hang out and shoot the shit. While I anticipate most posts coming from alumni of our (the US') most recent military adventures, those from other nations/break away republics/African child armies feel free to post as well.

To assuage those concerned: No, I am not some alphabet agency fag at a computer in Arlington pissing my pants over the extremist/constitutionalist/domestic terrorist/Ron Paul/NRA/white guy threat. Anyone in such a role is kindly asked to fuck right off.

This is a bad idea. It creates microdivision within RVF that is not helpful.

The only reason for any sort of specialization is if it optimizes your game/lifestyle or travel options. A thread like this doesn't do that.

If the point of this thread is "Gaming for Veterans" or "Traveling for Veterans" or ways for Veterans to hack the VA system, that will make sense.

On the other hand, that doesn't seem to be the purpose of this thread. It seems this thread is just for veterans to segregate themselves for the sake of being veterans, and this is not helpful. Then we will have "Russian members thread" or "German members thread" etc just for the sake of it. It is one thing to have a thread that is "Gaming in Latin america for Russian RVF members" that is something else entirely to a thread that is "Russians members thread" for its sake of just being "Russian members thread".

Any micro-specialization of these kind has to be directed towards optimizing game, lifestyle or travel. e.g. "White guys travel/game in Asia"; not "whites members thread" for the sake of "white members" thread.

It is one thing if you have "Gaming for Whites in Asia" or "Gaming for Asians in Europe" or "Gaming for Blacks in Latin America". These kind of micro-division are designed to optimize your lifestyle/game-- which is the purpose of RVF. But a thread that is just "blacks only" or "veterans only" or "whites only" for the sake of being whites only is not helpful.

You can have a thread devoted to accountants or engineers if it helps find jobs and network, etc. You can have a Veteran thread if it is devoted to networking, receiving medical treatment, job options, coping with PTSD, etc and put it in the lifestyle section. It has to serve an utilitarian purpose, otherwise, it is just a way to create hierarchy and pecking order. It creates a "US" vs "Them" mentality.

In a nutshell, it is a bad idea for you to have thread for a group of people for the sake of just having the thread for that group of people, unless it is micro-specialized to optimize your game, lifestyle and travel options.

While we're on the subject - is any vet here familiar enough with Ft. Benning to give me some suggestions on what to do/where to go on weekends in Columbus, Atlanta, anywhere within 150 miles of Benning for shits, giggles, and trouble?
