Astonishment, sadness, anger, and laughter - all in quick succession? Sounds to me like Ms. Gyllenhaal is experiencing the rapid mood swings commonly associated with dementia. It’s sad to see anyone go through this, but particularly a woman who, in her early life, was so talented and beautiful.

Fortunately the aging former actress lives at home with her handsome caretaker, 44-year-old Peter Sarsgaard. The heroic Sarsgaard is often photographed walking his patient through the streets of their Park Slope, Brooklyn neighborhood.

It’s such a shame Gyllenhaal learned the truth about life during her twilight years. She had so much potential.

Let's be honest, Maggie was never very attractive. She should just be grateful that she has an acting career at all.

She wasn't ever hot for Hollywood. She's always had a more mature look about her, and I'd say she's still same-level as before for Hollywood...if she doesn't butch her hair. She needs a makeover and she'll look decent for 37.

She needs longer hair and a good makeover.

It's too bad for Peter Sarsgaard. This is why you don't marry a really social hottie (think hot actress). It's a catch 22 for them, and ultimately, you:
1) She's social and hot, so eventually she'll cheat
2) She wants to stay loyal, so she butches her hair and uglifies to prevent too much attention socially.

If you must marry, marry a hottie who's content staying in:
3) She's hot and wants to stay loyal, doesn't need attention and has a sister and bff...they stay in and drink wine

I remember a number of female acquaintances & friends of mine commenting on how she was too ugly to replace Katie Holmes' role shortly after Chris Nolan's Dark Knight started showing. I just happened to be taken aback at the time about how women (young, older, married, unmarried) would openly brutally criticize another woman's looks.

She was never attractive. I remember when she took over Katie Holmes character in The Dark Knight movie and me and my boys where like who the fuck is this ugly ass chick.

She was ok, when I saw here in The Dark Knight, I honestly didn't think she was the same girl in Batman Begins.

Well let's think about it another way. She's complaining that the producer says that a 37-year old woman is not a credible love interest to a 55-year old man, by which he really means that people will not pay money to see a movie with this type of casting. I frankly do not put too much faith in the movie industry's capability to know what will be a hit and what won't be, outside from franchise movies. I think basically they have no clue, and the blockbuster movie pays for all the other ones that suck.

Depending on the kind of role she was trying out for, maybe the producer is right, and maybe he isn't. She's not my favorite actress (but she was pretty good in The Secretary), but I don't think her complaint is wrong on its face. If it's to be a very mainstream movie, he's probably right, but not for the age-based reasons, but rather who she is as an actress. If it's more of an indy-type movie, I think he is probably wrong.

Where her nose joins the forehead is slightly flat, thin upper lip, flat philtrum(where the hitler moustache goes) and slight lidding on the corners of her eyes.

Thanks for clarifying, I should've googled it. I knew something was off and the character.

Maggie made her character look like 15 years older.

^ This. Do a Google Image search for Jake Gyllenhaal - dude looks good (and cut as fuck in his new boxing movie). Can't get a more apples to apples comparison of male/female aging quality than that unless they were identical twins.

She was cute in Donnie Darko. That's all I can think of.
