Why is it that atheists seem to constantly bring up Christianity when extremist Muslims, who don't represent mainstream American Muslims at all, do something bad?
I mean, we even have a President who goes on stage and babbles about the Crusades.
Why do you hate Christianity so much? Just be secure in your non-belief and let it go.

You're comparing a woman who damaged a display to two guys shooting up an exhibit full of people? Uhh...

But here, there is a moral issue: the bombing of planned parenthood can be claimed to at least save lives, since bombing the center will save the lives of children who may have been aborted.
Furthermore, the bombing was at night so no one was harmed.

The women that go to that clinic would just go elsewhere.
And even if you simultaneously bombed every single abortion clinic in the United States for the greater glory of Jesus, you wouldn't end up saving lives.
Women would still abort, they would just do so without proper medical supervision, just like they did before it was legalized. As a result, many would die in botched procedures. And the rich would still send their daughters abroad to get medical abortions, just like the good old days. So, the end result of a perfectly successful Christian campaign of terrorist bombings would be a bunch of poor women dying a slow horrible death of sepsis.

I don't hate Christianity specifically. All religions are equally devoid of truth and reality in my opinion. What I do hate is hypocrisy and a constant attempt to legislate based on superstition, and to invade public space and discourse with useless religious dogma.
The reason I bring up Christianity is because the organizers of this event in Texas want to pretend that it's about free speech and their deeply held 'Merican beliefs in freedom.
The reality is that their understanding of religious freedom is that you are free to be as Christian as you want to be, and that other religions are suspect at best, and idolatrous more likely. The goal of this event was to mock Islam, not promote free speech.
Not that it matters, but do you have any proof that the event organizers or that the vast majority of people in attendance were Christians motivated by hatred of Islam? Or that they want to legislate their religious beliefs?
Geert Wilders isn't a Christian, last time I checked. I think you're stereotyping and assuming things without any evidence just because it's Texas.

Uhh, OK, what hypocrisy...? You're mad about a hypothetical scenario you made up involving Christians as compared to the actual events that have happened involving Muslims?

Stop acting like you somehow know anything about this situation, you're embarrassing yourself.
You, like everyone else in this thread, heard about this event for the first time somewhere in the last 14 hours because of the news of the shooting. Somehow since then you've done exhaustive research and polled all the organizers and attendees about their religious affiliations and political leanings?
Pointless rhetoric like this why I rarely use the word "atheist" to describe myself anymore; you remind me of myself at age 14.

This is a great example. Ask yourself the number of bombed planned parenthood centers in the last 50 years. Compare the number of people who blow things/ themselves up. Christians vs. Muslims.
How many bombings like this one have been commited? Less than 5. No comparison.

RE: Two suspects shot dead at Muhammad Art Exhibit
VVVV, stop. As a Christian, I completely believe in anyone's right to mock and ridicule any aspect of Christianity. I completely condemn defacing of objects and bombing abortion clinics or whatever by Christians.
Hate speech means nothing to me. So what if it's hate speech.
I'll leave you with a Stephen Fry quote:
'It's now very common to hear people say, "I'm rather offended by that", as if that gives them certain rights. It's no more than a whine. It has no meaning, it has no purpose, it has no reason to be respected as a phrase.
"I'm offended by that"
Well, so fucking what?'

It's impossible for someone to study and compare the source materials of Christianity and Islam (Bible, Koran, Hadith, etc.), and still believe that they're "equally" devoid of truth and reality. Even the most secular atheists (Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, etc.) admit that Christianity, at it's core, is a benign religion.
In terms of extremist elements within Christianity vs. Islam, it's a discussion that shouldn't even be taking place to begin with, as statistics on the probability of attacks, frequency of attacks, cited motivation for attacks, damage inflicted, etc. are so overwhelmingly lopsided against Islam.
A dispassionate review of the evidence leads to a conclusion at direct odds with egalitarian beliefs, so media and government will lie, justify false equivalency, and distort facts to keep the peace.

Currently, those statistics are correct. Although to be fair, it's only in the last century or so that Islam has pulled ahead of Christianity to be the most violent religion.
I never said that (at the present moment), that both religions were equal in their propensity for violence, merely that they were equal in their level of objective truth/reality. Zero is equal to zero.
I was just thinking of something else. While intent matters to the living, I doubt it is very significant to the dead. I am guessing the number of civilians killed accidentally as "collateral damage" in US military strikes greatly exceeds the number of civilians killed deliberately by Muslims in terrorist attacks in the past 15 years.
Here's another interesting hypothetical. Presumably the US military acts honorably and with good intentions, with the ultimate goal of saving lives by achieving stability. A lot of people have died in the Middle East in the past 15 years. If the US had said fuck it, and never engaged militarily in Iraq, and not gotten involved in their latest civil war, and just let them fight it out, would there be more deaths or less?
