With all these national outrages it seems you should really withold judgement cause the media has the tendency to fit everything into their narrative without knowing all the facts.

I was confused why I had never read an account of how Grey suffered his injuries, I just filled in the blanks in my head and assumed while he was being arrested there was a physical confrontation and a bunch of cops manhandled him to the point of breaking his spine.

Personally I know 2 doctors who served in the ER - one for years. She said that she got so many freak accidents of people who did crazy shit and broke their spines that she was no longer surprised by anything. That said - it is conspicuous in this case, but of course not impossible.

That's the problem. These departments are so corrupt and lie at every step of the way, it's impossible to ever know the real truth.

If they'd start holding themselves accountable and have some real transparency, you wouldn't have these situations like Ferguson and Baltimore where the people assume the police were in the wrong.

The uproar in Baltimore only started after this guy had been in the hospital for a week and eventually died, meanwhile they still wouldn't release any information on what happened or what crime he committed.

You want to see an absolute freak show? Watch some of the asshats who are trying to get the mayor's job in Philadelphia on TV. They are all running commercials. When I used to work down there I never ceased to have fun by busting on the corruption in that town.

They use the time when there's no communication and a lot of confusion to come up with a story. It's kind of like of Smithers whispering to Burns to "go" at the potato sack race while everyone else stands at the starting line waiting for the gun to go off.

Of course, no department is ever in the wrong, they always do everything by the book, and the story they come up with always paints the other side in a negative light, like oh yeah, this guy was banging his head in the van, trying to get a civil suit poppin' off. Right, all those times that dude got arrested, and now he finally decides to bang his head in a van?

So let's just remember, the police are always right because they're the police, except that one "isolated incident" in which a cop dropped his taser next to a dead man's body to fabricate his story, and it's crazy to think, he would have got away with it too if it hadn't been for that meddling dude walking around with his cell phone on record.

Baltimore has been fucked up since slavery, you have to rewind the videotape 200-plus years to even begin to understand the situation there, blaming it solely on liberal politics or "inherently criminal Blacks" is just the standard representation of lazy heuristics.

This started with Richard Sherman after his rant on live TV after making one of the biggest plays of his life at the NFC Championship game a year ago. People were calling him all types of "n-words" and "low-life thug" on twitter. I think he was called a thug like 725 times after that rant and two times that for the n-word. All you have to do is google the n-word and Richard Sherman and you can see all the tweets.

When I heard people call Sherman a "thug" for that, I had to cringe. I overheard it from different people randomly. Much less seeing it on the internet.

He made a huge play to win a huge game against a guy that was talking trash to him before the game. Then afterwards he tries to help him up and congratulate him on having a great game and the guy shuns him. He then has the camera shoved in his face and reacts in a some what controlled manner for all that was going on.

As for their phony comparison: no one ever said the surfer riot or the college sports riots were anything other than stupid, criminal and uncivilized mob violence. That is awesome. Even though Geraldo is on Fox, he is a typical Ivory Tower Liberal. Pretends to be for the poor people just to spit out a story or get publicity. Glad to see him called out. He sure didn't like it, because that is his image of being "down with the people" being crushed.

A likeable NFL Player being a thug? Now as far as the rioters are concerned - that is another matter.

I care little about PC-talk or otherwise racial connotations - if the word is not appropriate, then of course people should not use it. You can hardly control Twitter though.

When thousands of people were protesting in Baltimore against the hopeless economic situation it got no coverage.

It reminds me of the Spanish and Portuguese protests against the austerity measures - hundreds of thousands - even millions country-wide, then almost no news outlets took up the story. It did not matter, because democracy is a sham.



They only care when violence erupts, so that they can enact an even tighter police state. Peaceful protests amount to nothing, because the proles don't count. The media is not our friend and has never been - the positive Hollywood crap on it is just a PR-job.

Yeah I'm really not sure why. A lot of people think it was because of the reporter's body language. If you notice it she looks uncomfortable and it seemed like he was yelling at the reporter. This is nothing new though. Its the Muhammad Ali, Jack Johnson syndrome. Floyd Mayweather gets called a thug all the time, simply for being cocky and very outspoken.

I agree, twitter is pretty much uncontrollable so it is what it is.

Apparently looters tried to light this pizza store owner, Essam el Ghannam, on fire. They doused him with lighter fluid but he got away from them before they hit him with lighters. He says he's going to reopen his severely damaged pizza shop and try to legally get a gun since the police wouldn't help him. I got bad news for him, getting a license there is next to impossible unless you're politically connected.

I live in MD and I am willing to bet more than a few people here have had their views on gun ownership change (or at least waver) because of this event. When you see these images and realize: that could be me, vulnerable and alone, with no way to defend myself and nobody to call for help. With a gun, maybe you've got a chance. With no weapon, you better pray you can get away in time because otherwise you're at the mercy of someone who's willing to douse you with lighter fluid and burn you alive.

Depends on where he lives in the US. Knife laws very from state to state so in some states the cops wouldn't even give a fuck about the knife but would still chase him, detain him and question him because what he's doing is highly suspicious. In other states, mostly northeastern ones where they're very strict about weaponry and anti-weapon in general, he'd probably get tazed.

This is one of those Youtube morons who is playing with fire, though. Just because some UK cops are passive doesn't mean they all are.

6 officers charged in Freddie Gray's death

Quote:BALTIMORE — Representatives for the family of Freddie Gray expressed satisfaction at Friday's announcement by the state's attorney that charges would be filed against six city officers she says are responsible for the death of the Baltimore man.

But the family representatives also said during a Friday afternoon press conference that they hoped the case served as motivation to reform the way police do their jobs in communities across the country, and they urged members of the public to express themselves peacefully.

"We are satisfied with today's charges," said Richard Shipley, Gray's stepfather. "These charges are an important step in getting justice for Freddie and we ask that whoever comes to our city -- a city that we love, a city that we live in -- come in peace, and if you are not coming in peace, please don't come at all, because this city needs to get back to work."

Family lawyer William Murphy Jr. said the case must motivate officials to consider body cameras, upgraded training, better oversight and a "new culture of policing."

In the coming days, there will be conversations with police experts, rank and file officers and community leaders to figure out how to promote lasting reforms, Murphy said.

"We must seize this moment," Murphy said. "Let us pray that God will guide us to do His or Her will in the pursuit of justice."

The press conference came just hours after the announcement by State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby that could shape future relations between police and residents in Baltimore.

During her announcement earlier on Friday, Mosby, whose family has five generations of police officers, said the six officers illegally arrested Gray and then failed to get him the medical help he clearly needed after they arrested him.

She charged Caesar Goodson Jr., the officer driving a transport van in which Gray was riding, with the harshest crime: second-degree depraved-heart murder, a charge for an action that is considered to demonstrate a callous disregard for human life. In Maryland, it carries a sentence of up to 30 years.

She charged the other officers with involuntary manslaughter, assault, failure to render aid and misconduct in office.

A loud cheer went up from the crowd on the street in front of the War Memorial Building, where she announced the charges.

"To the youth of this city, I will seek justice on your behalf," she said.

Residents on the streets of the Sandtown neighborhood where police arrested Gray greeted the news with celebration and cautious optimism.

Gray, 25, died April 19, a week after his encounter with the officers, of a mysterious spinal injury suffered while in police custody. His death led to 10 days of protests, some that turned violent Monday after Gray's funeral. Clashes between police and protesters led to the arrests of more than 200 people and injuries to at least 20 police officers.

Mosby outlined the encounter between Gray and the officers, starting from the point when he made contact with an officer on April 12 and ran. She said police illegally arrested Gray, assaulted him and falsely accused him of carrying an illegal weapon when they found a utility knife on him that is legal to carry in Maryland. She said police handcuffed and carried him to the metal portion of the van where he was not strapped in with a seat belt, as per department policy.

She said officers Garrett Miller, William Porter, Edward Nero, Lt. Brian Rice and Sgt. Alicia White assaulted Gray. Each faces up to 10 years if convicted of second-degree assault.

The officers did not get Gray help, even though he requested it several times, including once when he said he needed an inhaler because he couldn't breathe, she said.

Five of the officers are in custody, said Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. They will be booked and a bail commissioner will determine within 24 hours of their arrest whether to release them on bail or keep them in custody.

Mosby said the charges are not an indictment on the entire force. Mosby said her parents, aunts and uncles were police officers, and her grandfather is a founding member of a black officers organization in Massachusetts.

During the Friday afternoon meeting with reporters, family lawyer Murphy said Gray's relatives learned of Mosby's decision when it was announced on television.

"We were in shock and it was a good shock, you know what I mean?" Murphy said. "...that justice had been approached in a forthright and courageous manner by this prosecutor."

He said the last two weeks have been the most trying days in the lives of Freddie Gray's family members. "Today has given the Gray family a measure of hope," Murphy said.

Earlier Friday, in comments just after the charges were announced, President Obama said, "Justice needs to be served. ... What I think the people of Baltimore want more than anything else is the truth."

Near a burned-out CVS in West Baltimore that has been the epicenter of protests, dozens of people gathered to process the unexpected and what they considered momentous news. Many waved their hands in the air, laughed loudly and gave high fives to each other. Passing cars honked their horns in solidarity as people pumped their fists in the air.

Police stepped up their presence in the neighborhood. Members of the National Guard stood in line wearing fatigues and holding guns. Baltimore police officers, Maryland state troopers and Pennsylvania state troopers, all in riot gear and many carrying shields, stood staring at the unfolding scene.

News of the charges shocked Quinton Carter, 23, of Baltimore, who said he felt justice was finally being served 12 days after Gray died.

"It makes me feel good," a smiling Carter said. "Police officers now see that they will be held accountable for the things they do to us."

Carter, who is black, said for decades police treated young black men, including himself, unfairly and assumed that they are up to no good. Last week, Carter said, he was sitting at a bus stop when an officer pulled a gun on him.

"I fit the description of someone they were looking for, and a lot of that happens around here," Carter said. "It's sad."

Longtime Maryland Rep. Elijah Cummings, a Democrat who has been marching with protesters in recent days, praised Mosby's decision to charge the officers.

"We did witness history," he said Friday afternoon.

The Baltimore police officers union says the six officers charged in the Freddie Gray investigation aren't responsible for his death.

Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 3 President Gene Ryan made the comment Friday in a letter to State's Attorney Mosby before she announced the charges. It was the union's strongest statement to date in the officers' defense.

"As tragic as this situation is, none of the officers involved are responsible for the death of Mr. Gray," Ryan wrote. "To the contrary, at all times, each of the officers diligently balanced their obligations to protect Mr. Gray and discharge their duties to protect the public."

Ryan asked Mosby in the letter to appoint a special independent prosecutor. But after announcing charges Friday, Mosby said she would not turn the case over to a special prosecutor.

The union contracts with an attorney, Michael Davey, who has said that five of the six officers gave voluntary statements on the day of Gray's arrest.
