It sucks, but honestly he'll be fine. He has "Fuck You Money", so he'll be fine. So will his ex-wife and his children.

She may have waited until close to the end of his career to do it, or it happened like this unintentionally, but either way it's all moot. Kobe isn't like the average athlete who had a few great years but is forgotten after he is done. Kobe has built a legacy for himself. He's easily one of the top 15 players ever, and may even crack the top 10. He's got 5 rings, and is possibly the best offensive player in NBA history. Even when he's done playing I'm sure he'll have some endorsement opportunities and other business ventures open to him the same way MJ did, although obviously not to the same extent.

I'm more disappointed for the millions of men and women who don't but have to deal with either relentless child support payments, or raising their child with only a small amount of money given by the other parent.

Dont forget this is the 3rd or 4th time she was going to divorce him due to cheating, in the past he had to buy her a 1 mil diamond ring, a custom made Lamborghini, and other stuff. He knew what he was doing and the consequences, to him it was worth the risk/reward.

It was better for his career to get married. You make more money as a married man as the public trust you more. If he stayed single or just had girlfriends, the public would think he was gay or a womaniser. This is bad for business in public image.

Single, he might make 75 mill for himself and not lizard to share it with. Married, he makes 200 mill and runs the risk of giving up 75 mill in case of 'infidelity'. It's a tactical move, a case of risking a little to win a lot.

It only makes sense that way. I can't see any other reason with all stuff that has been circulating for decades even since Eddie Murphy spoke of the pre-nup in his comedy 'Raw', why cats would still wifey up in America especially when they are sitting on a lot of cheese.

It defies stupidity. I relayed this in Africa and I got the same look as I would if I broke out in ancient Japanese languages. Over there, a lizard would catch a machete to the skull if she tried to pull that nonsense...

I think this largely depends on what you do for a living. Athletes get paid off of what they do on the field of play. So long as you don't get arrested, your image is good enough to make off-the-field dollars. For an actor like Clooney, all he need prove is that he isn't gay, avoid major controversies, and his image is fine. In fact, it's enhanced by being seen with a lot of fine women. I think we had a recent thread on this - whether or not being married helps you climb the ladder at office. For entertainers, it may actually help you NOT to be married if you're a heartthrob...

I like this guys take:

Listen to me, men, and pay close attention to these basic facts:

1. The divorce rate in this country exceeds 50%, so the odds are that whomever it is that you are calling wife today, will be your ex-wife at some point in the future.

2. The divorce/family courts hate you, and will make it their mission in life to destroy your life both financially and emotionally – especially if there are children involved.

3. Don’t get married, just co-habitate, and ensure you know your state’s laws regarding common-law marriage. If it’s five years, then change girlfriends every four and a half years.

4. Don’t have kids with anyone you aren’t 100% sure you want to have in your life until the day you die, because that’s exactly where they’re going to be one way or the other. If you want kids that badly, hire a surrogate and be a single parent on the birth certificate. This way the courts can’t take them away from you, nor make you pay a lifestyle stipend (disguised as child support) to some bimbo who lied about her birth control habits.

5. If you absolutely, positively have to get married, get a damn iron-clad pre-nup! And if she says she won’t marry you under those circumstances, then you have your answer and you need to move on.

Get over your romantic notions about marriage, and recognize that the price you will pay at some point down the road, is just too steep. Women specifically, and liberals in general, have turned marriage into nothing more than an opportunity for a financial windfall for females, but if you don’t play by their rules, then they can’t touch you.

I'll say this again, because far too many men do not do this.....

You analyze the FINANCIAL RISKS FIRST...then you use that to decide if you will marry her...if you live in North America.

Now I don't make millions, but I am on my 13th year with a 6-figure income. I won't need a pre-nupt because if the chick is not within 15-20% of my net-worth (meaning I would lose 7.5-10% in a divorce), I am not marrying her.
