I've seen enough English birds abroad to dismiss the oft-leveled criticism that the English/Scottish are an unfuckable breed. Especially curious about Glasgow, Bristol, Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle. Which cities are the most pedestrian/day game friendly? Where is nightlife best/drinking culture hardest/sexual mores the most relaxed? How would an American be received? I would be traveling solo and in country for two to three weeks. Would prefer to spend the whole trip in one city. And what of living arrangements? I really prefer the social vibe of a hostel, but recognize this forecloses entirely the possibility of isolating and banging natives. Can anyone rattle off some short-term apartment rental websites?

Bristols very cool, but abit small. I went to uni there. Alot of nightlife down by the river. Loads of students (2 huge universities - one top one, one OK one). Locals have an amusing farmer accent that makes even the crassest of them seem lovable. Think it's about 300k population, so not huge.

Havent been out in the others but have visited Manchester and Liverpool. Exciting places, I'd consider moving to both. And Geordies (Newcastle natives) are regarded as some of the friendliest, and some would say most authentic, people in the UK (they're used in all our call centers!).

BTW, you wont be able to understand the locals in any of the above places at first But you'll get an ear for it.

London is cool though too man. If you havent been, you should spend like a month or something. So much going on, it's a city that's gotta be "done" IMO. Summer is a good time.

I'm an American who has been to Bristol, Oxford, Manchester, and Southampton (as well as lived in London).

Manchester has good nightlife, although the quality is a bit lower. Bristol was pretty quiet and dull for my tastes, although the girls were easy.

Southampton, in my opinion, has the hottest girls in all of England outside of London's high-end clubs. Has good nightlife 5-6 nights a week. Small town with two big universities, so tons of good day game areas. Definitely one of the most underrated and overlooked cities that I've ever been to.

Hey, I’ve been lurking a while and only begun posting today.

Entropy, I’m glad you mentioned Southampton. I was hesitant to mention this city in case anyone from the U.K. massively disagreed...I see you have a bit of a troll problem here, I didn’t want to get off on the wrong foot!

I’m from real close by and I actually rate it quite highly. I haven’t seen the nightlife recently as I’m mostly in London now. The day game/talent ratio is quite high though considering its size.

The other thing worth noting is it has a HUGE Polish community (about 1 in 10 people). I think it might be one if not THE largest outside London for it's size. I have a few Polish friends and they all seem to know someone Polish living around there...

...Strangely, the other Port city next to it (Portsmouth) has a totally different vibe. I personally think it's full of mutants (male and female) They're big rivals (Portsmouth is famous as a Navy base, which historically made it a bit rough. Southampton is the commercial and passenger ship side...Titanic etc.)

That being said, the University areas of Portsmouth (Southsea) can be quite cool. There's a decent little music scene and lots of out-of-town girls.

I had a few successful F-closes when I was in Edinburgh. Small city and most of the bars were in the one area. Lots of places in the UK I haven't been and can't comment on though.

Would like to ask you guys' opinions on any difference in game needed or ease of pulling between the south and the north of the UK. Of course, London and Manchester are not included in the discussion. Wales and Scotland can be distinguished if necessary.

Technically many of the cities named aren't second tier (depends on whether you mean international or national terms). There's a great Northampton datasheet around at the momentm

That's because it has one of the highest populations of eastern europeans in the UK, mainly polish.

Southampton is seriously underrated. Been there for work few weeks ago. Amount of pretty girls on a Train station on my way to airport was surprising. For UK I would say that is the best I've ever seen.

I concur with this. I wouldn't say that Manchester will become the "London of the North" because it won't reach the size or stature of London for a while. However, it is fair to say that Manchester will become the economic powerhouse of the North, Birmingham the economic powerhouse of the Midlands etc.

If London is Tier 1, then I would put Manchester and Birmingham in Tier 1.5 within the next decade or two.

Manchester is definitely Tier 2 albeit a great city. Probably has only one eighth the population of London.
