I think facebook is bullshit. Why do you need it?

At this point FB is so integrated into the way we keep in touch with people that it's almost impossible to delete it now without leaving a major hole in your social life. It's pretty much the only means I keep in touch with my friends in other countries and keeps us up to date in each others lives. We can wax nostalgic about the days before FB where we made phone calls to stay in touch, but the world has moved on it's not going back.

I think the OP's goals can be easily met with intelligent use of privacy filters. I have different lists of people with their own settings. List for family(who I don't want seeing all my shit), lists for people I know very well who can see my whole profile, lists for people I don't know well(they can only see some things), list for people who live outside America(so they don't have to see my political posts which isn't relevant to them) and then lists for people who just have me as a contact but they can't see anything other than my main profile photos. Just learn to use those filters. Recently FB has made it even better allowing you to change the visibility of virtually anything on your page and share it or not share it with whoever you want. So there's really no excuse to delete your page just to be "cool and mysterious."

I'd wager you could delete your page and would miss it a lot less than you think.

Can you tell us exactly how this went down? Also, was it an isolated incident or something that happens to you all the time using Facebook?

Mixx

Sure. It wasn't an isolated incident, but I don't primarily use it to chase girls. I use it to keep in touch with friends, and if the opportunity arises, I will use it to my advantage. I've banged a few girls in the past year from it, either directly or indirectly.

The latest was with a Mexican girl a 4-5 years younger than me. Solid 7-7.5. I have been in my home town for the past 4.5ish months, but haven't lived here since I was about 17 (27 now). I didn't know her from high school but know her ex boyfreind and met her once a year ago while she was with him, briefly. Anyways, I was home during the fair, which is always a crazy party because everyone comes home to visit family. I bumped into her outside the bar but I was chasing other girls and hanging out with friends so just barely introduced myself and then made the rounds. She made strong eye contact. Didn't get her number or anything, just a quick introduction then I went into the bar.

Then a week or so later I saw her comment on some other girls Facebook that we are mutual friends with. I added the Mexican girl and sent her a playful message. She added me back. We exchanged a couple of messages then she gave me her number without me asking. The messages were heavy with sexual innuendo, in a funny way, on my part. I always let girls know from the beginning that I'm not trying to be their Facebook "buddy". I got sick and didn't txt or call her for about two weeks. Then once I got better I texted her and we started flirting through text. Got her to come over to hang out and sealed the deal.

Another time was when a girl I had never met, but had lots of mutual friends, kept liking my comments on friends conversations. I ran into her at the bar and she gave me strong IOI's, told me it was weird but she knew exactly who I was, and I ended up fucking her that night. She was only about a 6 though.

The other times I've gotten laid from Facebook were mostly reconnecting with girls I went to high school with or girls I meet at the bar/social circle but did not game that night. So I might add them, or they add me, and I will usually wait for them to be on the chat feature and then start in with the sexual innuendo like I would if I was texting the girl.

I don't think it is worth it to start a Facebook page just to get laid, but since I use it for other things anyways, I use it to my advantage with girls where I can.

RE: Facebook page being a DLV
It's telling the good description of using FB above was of leveraging past connnections--high school connections-- and one stalker type notch.

Being older, it utterly creeps me out what an alienated form of one-way communication is is, broadcasting this crap about yourself to whoever wants it. Your puppies. How cute, someone comments. And neither of you have talked to each other, it's all a display for someone else.

I understand, younger guys tell me it's considered weird not to have it, but it seems like a voyeuristic time sink to me.

Just another capitalist creep getting in between people actually communicating. And remember, one thing the Unabomber had right, is that technological novelties and innovations become requirements. "Why don't you have a phone?!"

A next obvious step is to be expected to always be able to log onto a web page 24/7: "You don't have an iPad?"

Then the implants.

And each one of them takes more money, meaning more work, meaning more time in the POD. And gradually increasing stigma for not having ( being had by) that thing.

Think how the word "friends" has been demeaned when every cute chick has 1000 "friends."

"The goal of capitalism is to reduce all human interaction to the cash nexus."

RE: Facebook page being a DLV
I deleted mine well over a year ago and I don't miss it. You never get how big of a timesuck it is until you leave it behind, plus, any girl you add is going to use your profile to screen you, and it doesn't matter how airtight your profile and pictures are, chances are she'll find something she doesn't like; ever have a girl you met add you and discover out of your 17 mutual friends that 3 were girls that you had already fucked? Unpleasant.

If it stayed the way it was when I got it (2005ish?) I probably would have kept it, but it got ruined trying to be everything to everyone; the music apps, the sports apps, companies, events and famous people having their own pages, the games, groups within groups within groups, logging every piece of communication between two people or a group of people, the way each person's profile can be individually calibrated to control just who sees what. It's not real; I had it for over 5 years, I had something like 450 friends, now how many of them did I see on a regular basis?

Okay, yeah, I got laid a few times, but not by pursuing or getting pursued; whenever I got invited somewhere I'd check the event to see if any girls on my radar were going, and if they went me and my friends would magically run into them; sometimes I went to events that I knew would be lame solely because 5-6 girls I had an in with were there, and if after an hour there was nothing in the oven, I'd leave.

Aside, I don't need to be seeing pics of girls I was in various degrees of involve with with their boyfriends/fiances/husbands, or watching as every fool with a boner and no self-awareness likes every trivial detail posted by that hot girl with the curly dark hair and the D cup, and I definitely don't need to see how many probably lame or stupid events my friends get invited to and see the recap in pictures, that's a path to unhappiness, so fuck it.

Delete it.

RE: Facebook page being a DLV
I'm quite popular because of my FB page and girls know im a player. i use this as an advantage. I also like to create some drama sometimes like posting on my wall : "I miss you'' and have several girls respond to it and have an online bitchfight on my wall. Hahaha lovin it !

For me its a perfect way to keep in touch with the outside world and people i met abroad, if i go back to those places i already Have friends there. I have (online) friends in over 50 countries. people who i personally met and talked too, i rarely add people i don't personally know, especially those kind of friends collectors and i get more and more selective who i add while traveling, sometimes you hang out with people for a day but you know you never see them again after. Once year a have a deletion round, i delete 36 "friends" last christmas.

Most won't admit it but girls like players and love reading my status updates and comment on it. , i got introduced to other girls because of this.

I like too keep in touch with girls i banged, just for the hell of it.

I kind of want to have a mysterious vibe going on, because I constantly hear that mysteriousness works in your favor (and I have nothing to DHV with). I also have no photos to DHV with since I’m really introverted and don’t really have a very active social life (that won’t change due to many reasons, so please don’t start telling me to get DHV photos; I have to work with what I have). Basically, I don’t have pics of me doing interesting things or me with other people.

What effect will this have when girls see my profile? What about people in general? Will they have negative assumptions? I wanted to leave out my interests because I don’t have any DHV interests (it would have been really simple, like stand-up comedy, horror movies, music, coffee), plus it would make me look more mysterious. I’m still concerned about DLVing, though. Would my profile as it is be a DLV? Or would it work pretty well because there’s almost nothing on it? What would you recommend that I do?

Just a reply on this one.

Dude, read my lips. This in NOT gonna work. Been mysterious is not what facebook is about. You have to be interesting if people want to read your page.

You basically have a page with NOTHING so how do you expect people to like your page.

Unless you have to stay in bed the whole day/week/month/year for health reasons, how can you not have any DHV's ?

I think you should work on a interesting life first before starting to think about being mysterious and picking up girls. Girls see through this within minutes and will classify you as a non interesting/anti-social guy.

I dont wanna be harsh on you but you need some serious advice on this.

I must read/hear 100X a week how someone gets laid by using Facebook, but it's incredible how nobody ever breaks down how they use facebook to get laid (with girls they do not already know in their social circle). Dodgy

Don't get me wrong, I've gotten laid by using Facebook too.....too bad it's not 2005 anymore!

Target: "Ohm yeah just look me up on Facebook, and let's keep in touch"

MIxx:"sorry hun <grinning> I'm way too mysterious to use Facebook"

Girl {mouth open} "Oh really?"....now her pupils start to dilate!

Trust me, I am VERY interesting, and women truly feel that when I say don't do Facebook. Of course, my body language displays the utmost Alpha confidence as I say this, I don't say it with my head down, and my tail between my legs in "shame".

I have yet to lose a girl because I told her I did not have Facebook when Facebook enters the picture!

RE: Facebook page being a DLV
You can get laid from facebook for sure. Here's how my last two shook out...

One girl I worked on her car once a few years ago. Her dad became a Pastor or some shit and they had the church people fixing their shit after that so I saw her on someones comments and sent a hey you or something and she sent a friend request. She started commenting on my old pics and I asked her if she wanted to ride with me to Bradenton on an errand. She said sure and we ended up in a room after a couple bar stops.

The one before that was from some girl that I chatted up on POF and added. Not a peep out of her for about a year then I sent her some nonsense message and she came around. We met for drinks and I took her to my house.

Yesterday I saw this Phils girl from Chicago wrote about coming to FL to pick up her new car...I'm working on that now. I have no Idea how she got on my friends list.

Like I said, I have nothing to DHV with. I have no pics of me with people or me doing interesting things. I only have pics of me alone. I can’t DHV with that, so there’s no point of putting up anything but my profile pic. Also, I don’t have time to try to find an interesting life because I’m mostly busy with work, plus I’m introverted so I prefer to spend time alone. And like I said, I need to work with what I have. And some people here said that not putting up lots of stuff about yourself will make the girl curious about you and allow you to slowly reveal stuff about yourself.

So the point is, when girls see that I have no photos (aside from my profile pic) and I only have a few bands, movies and tv shows and my university listed, they will see that as a DLV and they’ll lose respect for me because they’ll think I have a boring life and I’m not social? It won’t give me the advantage of being mysterious? Would it kill my chances with a girl? Will people in general lose respect for me?

If it matters, girls find me attractive, I can display confidence, and girls find me to be funny and witty. That should help out, right? I just don’t have an interesting life so I can’t DHV with that.

Facebook, like any other technological advancement, can be used to your advantage. Shunning it, like some do text messaging, emails, club game, or indoor plumbing, is effectively missing opportunities. It is a tool, nothing more, and any true player will use ANY and ALL means necessary at his disposal to acquire the opportunity for a bang.

I have a problem where girls look overly hot to me than they really are, facebook is an invaluable tool for me, it has 1 picture of me in the distance and basic info. I use the facebook to get a good look of the girl, the camera doesn't lie or most girls are not good enough to take all hot pictures as they like to post about 200 photos of themself. If she is ugly then you'll see a bad pic of her she forgot to delete. Saved me from going for some girls who look hot in real life but are not that good looking.

True, but keeping a popular Facebook account takes a LOT of time! A Facebook page that everyone would be interested in as Sky-walker described above is something that is not done in your lunch break, it is NON-STOP maintenance, updates and bullshit status updates!

Sorry, but I got way too much shit to do in my life to sit there and show my family, friends and 10000 ex bangs who I am fucking, where I am fucking them, and who is in my pipeline to fuck next!

I think you should delete your favorite TV shows. In no way does it DHV. Nothing wrong with watching a little TV in your downtime, but it's not what you want any girls who check your profile to picture you doing. This is especially true if you already have introverted tendencies. Bands? Depends on the kind... What do you listen to? I'd leave your uni because it might help with the social circle thing. If your Alma mater is someplace like Appalachia Community College, then delete obviously.

This is what I don't understand...who says you HAVE to be on it all day, giving everyone minute-by-minute updates of everything you're doing? Just because the needier attention whores do that, who says YOU have to? Facebook only takes a lot of time if you CHOOSE to spend hours on it. I think a lot of people that have chosen to stop using it, and criticize it are the very people that realized they were spending too much time on it. That isn't a Facebook problem. That's a YOU problem (when I say YOU, I'm not targeting anyone specific). Some people do get kind of addicted to being on it. If you find it's a time drain, it's the smart thing to delete your page. I think plenty of others have stated right here how they use it to their own benefit. It really isn't hard to fathom how someone could get pussy off of Facebook - it's a networking site like any other that people use to get ass. Sometimes you'll even get it by accident, because a friend of a friend saw your page and thought you were someone they wanted to get to know.

Personally, I use it to have debates about sports, politics, or whatever with my boys. I have a number of international friends I've either met traveling, or on other sites where I met them, built a rapport, and when they deleted their profiles there they wanted to maintain contact with me (some I'm working for future bangs). I post pics of from things some of us have done together, like if we get together in Vegas and celebrate someone's birthday, I can post those so folks that couldn't come can see them. Or someone that was there might want to snag pics for themselves. And I post pics from my travels. I like to see pics of my friends' kids. Sure, I don't need the details of your baby taking a shit, but I don't mind updates on something funny he or she said or did. These are things friends normally would share with friends and family. Another friend's boyfriend almost got killed on his motorcycle. He's got massive spinal injuries, etc. etc. It would be exhausting for her to keep everyone posted by phone, email, etc. about his progress. On FB she can let all the people in the circle know how he's doing, because we all have met and know him too.

The thing is...I'm not on that much. Some of my friends complain about always missing me, because when I do go on I'm in and out quick. When I log in there are usually a couple of chat messages waiting, because I clicked off before they could send me the message. I occasionally post an update, or post a link or video that I want to share. I'll look through at other friend's updates and add a funny comment or two. If anything, you DHV by not always being on, but when you are on sharing something interesting or getting into a convo with someone.

"Sorry, but I got way too much shit to do in my life to sit there and show my family, friends and 10000 ex bangs who I am fucking, and where I am fucking them."

Why WOULD you use Facebook this way in the first place?

Again, this is a mistake of the user, not Facebook. FB isn't some evil entity, bent on fucking up your life. Someone complained about having too many friends, and having to delete all these people that he barely knows. Well...why did you add them?

Here's my general rule for FB - I add established friends, and I'll add the occasional friend of friend. I use other sites for meeting strangers, and if we establish a decent relationship over a period of time, you can get added to FB if you have a page there. I get the occasional invite from strangers on FB, but if I can't check out your page first, or you don't appear particularly interesting, no add. I haven't added a stranger YET. I don't see FB as a dating or hookup site, but you can definitely fall into a little something here and there.

I'm still laughing that dudes hanging out on a message board are saying that FB takes too much time.

Sure the forum can be a time-sink too, but at least you're learning!

My university is a highly ranked and well-known university (but it’s not a university that’s considered snobby). The 5 bands I put are either indie, punk or electronica (just one): Yeah yeah yeahs, grizzly bear, against me, animal collective and felix da housecat. Movies are either comedy, sci-fi, or horror (just one): the strangers, inception, district 9, clerks and lock stock and 2 smoking barrels. Tv shows: breaking bad and the wire.

So you’re saying that putting tv shows makes girls think that I spend my time watching tv all day? It’s kind of like putting video games then, in the sense that it’s a hobby that some people spend doing all day, every day? So just leave music and movies and that won’t give them any negative ideas of what I do in my free time? Should I put more music and movies or just leave it at 5 each?

What about putting some funny quotes? Would that just be extraneous?

Being older, it utterly creeps me out what an alienated form of one-way communication is is, broadcasting this crap about yourself to whoever wants it. Your puppies. How cute, someone comments. And neither of you have talked to each other, it's all a display for someone else.

You are really going to insult me after giving Mixx the breakdown that he asked for? I would hardly stay I stalked the girl (unless you mean the girl who kept liking my comments, then I agree that was a bit odd and I apologize). And even if that's what you think, I got laid by a 24 year old Latina with a tight little body. If that's what a "stalker type notch" is, I'm game for that all day. Like I've already stated, I don't have Facebook primarily to game girls, but I will use it for that when the opportunity arises.

Older people just won't "get" Facebook for the most part. Has nothing to do with Facebook being a time waste, voyeuristic, whatever. Just different eras. Lots of MUCH older people think you can jump on the internet and find any type of information you want about anyone with a click of a button. You can't explain to them how the Internet is a good thing and it doesn't work like that, because they were raised during a different era and just don't understand it.

No girl is going to decide she wants to have sex with you because you have the same taste in movies. The music sounds OK...I guess. If you are very introverted and mild-mannered you might mention something normally associated with edgier people. Girls are intrigued by contrasts: a hard core biker who likes classical music or a Latin professor who likes Insane Clown Posse. For the love of God, don't put quotes. It reeks of seeking approval.

I've never used it to get laid via girls not in my EXTENDED social circle. I.E. I either met the girls briefly, or we have mutual friends and just never met. I would not use it to game random girls, that would be creepy. For you being in your mid 30s, probably not much value in it for you. I doubt you want to hook up with the girls who were Freshmen when you were a Senior in high school. For me, if the opportunity arises, I'll use it to hook up with a 23-24 year old who I didn't get the chance to fuck when I was 17.

It's not a great hookup tool. However, if you use it for other things, then why not use it to your advantage when you can? I go to the grocery store to buy groceries, but if the cashier is cute I will still hit on her. That's how I view Facebook for hooking up.
