due to work...Brussels is my most visited city, must have been 200 times in the last 10 years, albeit most times fly in / meeting / fly out....only comment I can say are that local ladies, ie - Belgians....IMO are some of the ugliest in Europe..not quite as bad as here in the UK, but not much better!

An additional note on Brussels which i didn't shared yet in too much detail.

Place to be is Mirano Contental, close to Madou metro stop. You should especially go there on "Ladies Night", it is organized every third Saturday of the month (but check the facebook page to be sure). Girls get in for free, as a dude you pay 10 with membership card, 15 without.

The club is huge, and you will be totally blown away by so much hot girls. I've been in many clubs in all of Europe, and there are very few clubs who can compete with Mirano in terms of size, music, athmosphere and quality of girls.

From 23:00 until 2:30 roughly girl to boy ratio is probably around 4:1 which is madness for a city as Brussels. After 2:30 the ratio will drop but still it won't get a total cockfest.

Now of course, you could already suspect that picking up girls there is a very, very, very hard task. This is the perfect place is you want a big challenge. Many of the girls are very bitchy, they won't even allow to talk to you and shut you down before you even had the chance to say a word.

Yeah Brussels is to be avoided if you want chicks. Unless you have a good social circle, you will face lonely days and nights. Basically Brussels is divided between the international, Dutch-speaking (Flemish) and French-speaking groups, with these 3 groups rarely intermixing. Furthermore you have the immigrant groups, such as the North Africans, Turks, Italians...etc., which also forms groups apart, but sometimes blend into the francophone group.

Brussels can be a pussy paradise for some, while for others it is hell on earth (my case). If you have a strong social circle, it can be very good. For international people, this means being an intern or being here on erasmus. Otherwise if you are not part of this group, it is very hard to meet people and those that you do meet usually leave after a few months. Also the Belgians do not really like to mix with the international people and are very hands off.

If you go out, the ratios are terrible. Coupled with the fact that there are a lot of Mediterranean people here, as well as Turks and North Africans, which means the women get approached all the time and have attitude. I have literally seen lines of guys just waiting to approach a chick. One guy would go in, talk to a chick for 5 minutes, leave and literally that second another guy would swoop in. I would recommend going out earlier, as the ratios are better earlier in the night. The later it gets, the heavier the sausage fest becomes. In the Belgian places, it's usually the immigrants that approach, while the international bubble is full of Italians, Spanish, as well as sleazy lawyers and lobbyists, who approach all the time and validate the shit out of girls. Horrible mix.

From my limited experience:
If you want to go out during the week, then probably these places:
Delirium: this is supposed to be the bar with the most beers in the world, and so for that reason is very popular with tourists. In the center it is one of the few bars that is always full. The patrons are a mix of tourists and locals.

Cimetiere d'Ixelles area: the area close to the two main universities: ULB (French speaking) and VUB (Dutch speaking). Have been there only once or twice for a short time, but there are a lot of bars there where the students go out to during the week. During the weekend it's a bit worse, since most Belgian students go home during the weekends. I need to check this area out at some point, but have no one to go with.

Place du Luxembourg: On Thursdays this is the place to go.

During the weekend:
St. Gery (and Bourse): There are a lot of bars in this area. Come a bit earlier, as they tend to get sausagy the later it gets. Further out from this area, you can find a bunch of Flemish bars.

Cabraliego: A cheap Spanish bar, where all the poor Spanish students go. Next to it is a club called Havana, which is very hit and miss. Sometimes you can find a bunch of girls there, sometimes it is filled with all kinds of sausagy male immigrant groups approaching anything that even resembles a chick.

Maison du Peuple: In St. Gilles. Good place to chill, a lot of people hanging around. It's far from my place, so rarely go.

Fuse: They sometimes have good parties here, but it depends.

Mirano: Heard it's good sometimes, but haven't been. Can get a bit ghetto on some nights.

Celtica: If you go, go earlier. It's one of the few places that is open all night, but after 1am, it's just a total sausage fest (especially on the second floor) and if you are too drunk, be careful, because what looks like a girl, might not be (filled with Brazilian trannies).

Spirito: Upscale club with face control. A lot of bitchy gold-diggers go here.

Ethnic: Small Greek-owned place. Open all night, but gets really crowded and the ratio usually isn't good.

Jeux d'Hiver: Upscale club in the south at Bois de la Cambre. Has face control, but never been.

The Wood: A club in the south in the middle of the woods. Been there a year ago and it was awesome, went there a few weeks ago and it was pretty bad. So it's hit or miss.

Otherwise there also seasonal parties which are organized like Antitapas or Apero Urbain.


The problem with Brussels is also that you never know in which language to speak. I speak fluent French, but don't know how to chat up girls in it. The 3 big languages here are English, French and Dutch.

Oh yeah, I would also like to hear other people's recommendations for Brussels. Hopefully there are some better places to go that I don't know about?
