I've read about this happening in India also. A guy can buy acid on any street (they use it to clean engine parts, etc.). You just bring a container and you can cop some. It's thrown in the faces of women who've dishonored their families (usually a male member of the family does it), or by a man that is displeased with her for any reason. It's happened here in NYC (I recall a story years ago where the family didn't approve of who a girl was dating, so a brother threw battery acid in her face on the street one day). One of the more notable stories was the slashing of a model named Marla Hanson in the 80s here. She rejected the advances of her landlord, so he hired dudes to slash her face with a razor (tried to make it look like a mugging), and she needed 100 stitches or so to close the wounds.

How did you come to a conclusion that it's a pilot's fault? How do you know she wasn't briefed about a spinning prop? Maybe the pilot shut the engine, let her out, restarted and she happened to forgot her LV bag and run back into the prop?

I hear this is quite common in Southeast Asia. Read of a few instances in Thailand where women were the perpetrators - one case that stood out was one where a mom and daughter did it to a woman the father was sleeping with.

I've read that in some cases the jaws get fused together. In this particular case, it "slipped down her throat with further terrible consequences."

How you could do such a thing to another human being is really beyond me.

Awful. I hope she will recover as much as it's possible, but it's a damn tragedy. The only comparable horrid things I can think of are Napalm and Yperite.

p.s. if this happened to me, I'd take to wearing a mask at all times like Zorro. But it would be small comfort.
