RE: salary in bangkok
I'll give you some info as I used to live there. My salary figure isn't relevant as I was paid by an American company which is not typical obviously for most expats.

These figures are all from people I know personally:

Thai girl, approx 25, college educated, mon-fri office worker: 20,000 baht per month (approx 650 USD)
UK citizen, approx 25, college educated, works as a "specialist" (deals with autistic kids) English teacher: 40,000 baht per month (1,300 USD)
Thai bar girl on Soi 4 or Soi Cowboy: Varies wildly depending on how pretty she is, how much she fucks, etc but as an estimate: The going rate for a good looking girl on Soi Cowboy is 3000 baht for a LT (LT=LongTime, i.e. all nigh fuck, for those of you who aren't familiar with hooker lingo)

So as you can see, local salaries are damn low by our standards. However, the country is cheaper to live than many.

Do you have a job offer there?

RE: salary in bangkok
Alot of these expat jobs include free housing and other benefits (flights, driver, expense account, housing, health insurance, etc) so you have to consider that too. Focus on what your disposable income will be.

Alot of these bar girls are living off of multiple dudes sending them 10,000 bhat a month from UK, Germany, etc....so hard to judge how much she's pulling.

RE: salary in bangkok
Gary,
Choosing between a salary of a 95k B/month in BKK and 5K$ in Australia, first of all, what kind of positions are we talking about?
I have not been to Austarlia yet so can't comment on the cost of living, fun factor and other important factors but 95k Bahts, is good money in BKK and BKK is very addictive city. As far as quality of life, based on my own experience having spent a few months in BKK last year, with 3-4k$/month, I was having a lifestyle that would take me at least 12-15k$/month here in Toronto, Canada. So all in all, if all things being equal, I'd take in a heart beat the 95k Baht offer over the 5k$ in Australia. No contest whatsoever.
