There is an option to create and download shared decks. Once you install it, just go to File -> Download -> Shared Deck and then search Russian. Organize by downloads and the 1000 most common should be at the top. Same deal for the plug-in Google TTS.

I downloaded that one and I've just been improving it with examples and sound as I go. I'm going to put it up there soon and call it 1000 most common 2.0 if you want it.

FYI, the deck is up there now. I'll put a final version up when I'm through.

It took me four months, but I finished all 90 lessons of Russian Pimsleur (Units 1, 2, and 3). I usually had to do each 30-minute lesson twice (one hour) but some took 4 tries. So I estimate this was a 100 hour project.

As a result, I have a great Russian foundation and can understand quite a bit. My speaking is slow and pronunciation is not so great, but I'm satisfied with the progress. I'm now going to take lessons.

You are always ahead of me by one year Roosh. Though, I did do Colombia before you haha. Will start my Russian training this fall. Ill give Russia and Ukraine a try in 2013, though since im a bit darker than you, Im sure it wont be as easy. Hope Poland treats me well in september.

The Michel Thomas course has great reviews for Russian.

I found it an amazing way to get the grammar into my head in a practical usable non-textbook way for german. Course quality varies by language, but it looks like the Russian course is a good one

Solid Plan. Every time I took a refresher course in Russian my Russian improved immensely. It's not enough just to converse in Russian with Russians.

The best is to learn Russian by a tutor in my opinion or by talking to Russian girls.Russian is to much of a spoken language and written forms do not coincide with oral speech.A great thing with Russian is no matter how much your grammar sucks you will be understood.It is the same case with all slavic languages you will be understood if using certain words sth which is not the case with German etc.

Nice dude. Pimsleur is good? I'm going to get it.

I'll be in the Russosphere in about three months and will start doing one on one lessons.

I actually stopped halfway through Pimsleur because I got to Russia and realized that I desperately needed vocab. When I saw that you finished and how quickly you did I was motivated to complete it.

It is really filling the holes I had in my conversations. I've been capable of making myself understood for quite some time now, but I can tell as I'm speaking that I'm not saying things the right way.

Pimsleur is good for explaining certain topics, such as possession which is handled in a completely different manner in Russian.

It definitely cannot stand on it's own for even a basic grasp of Russian. You need to learn a lot of vocab before you start picking up some roots and then the words will be a lot easier to memorize.

I'm going to embark on Pimsleur probably, unless I can get into a language class here at a local community college. Giving myself a few months and see what I can do.

I heard you can do online skype lessons but can't find that such services anywhere.

Which CC are you considering? Also, do you think a class at CC will give you functional Russian knowledge?

I have not taken language courses at CC but if they're anything like language learning in High School, then I would have my doubts so I'm curious as to others' experiences.

If you want to actually chat with people in whatever language, this site is supposedly very good. They've only recently added Russian though, so I'm not sure how easy it would be to find partners. Once I feel like I can actually make some kind of conversation, I'm planning to use it myself

Not sure, trying to find one that works around me. There is one at a local CC that is 6 hours of instruction a week (2 3hour night classes) for 4 months. But that is already filled up so may not work out.

May also want to look into italki.com. You can either pay people for online lessons or find another person that speaks Russian and is looking to learn English more and you help each other. I know my buddy used it when he was learning Russian a while back.

I just signed up for group classes today. In addition to self study, I think it'll motivate me and start me off with a good foundation. Taught by native speaker and a got a good deal...they were doing a 20% off so I got 20 hours of instruction for $243. Starting in January to it'll be game on at that point.
