How many times have you read a newspaper article about a horrific dog attack and discovered that, yet again, pit bulls were responsible?

There are some conflicting studies on Wikipedia (which I'm sure has been heavily edited to prevent dog-racism), but some studies support my conclusion:

"In relation to its small registration (929) the bullterrier (pit bull) was responsible for the highest number of deaths."

Combine this with a growing number of single women owning pit bulls as a father/husband/child substitute with their complete inability to train or discipline them, and I see problems on the horizon. Even many dudes can't control these things due to the breed's unpredictable nature and aggression.

This leads to the question: Should such an aggressive breed continue to grow in number in a world that's becoming increasingly ill-adapted to care for and train them properly?

My answer is no.

My modest proposal would be a soft genocide of the pit bull breed.

I know the phrase "soft genocide" may raise eyebrows, but it's actually quite humane. Just put laws in place to prevent people from breeding them. Anyone caught selling or raising pit bull puppies would be heavily fined or jailed. There would also be a lot of anti-pit bull propaganda.

I'm sure many of you have pits who are "total sweethearts" and who you love. That's fine and I wouldn't want to do anything to interfere in that relationship. But I've seen too much anecdotal evidence and research which leads me to believe that pit bulls are a danger to society.

The most humane thing to do would be to eradicate the breed from the face of the earth - painlessly, softly and gradually.

I'm a former dog trainer, and big pit bull advocate,
; yet the only breed I would never adopt from a shelter or dog fostering service is a pit bull. Too many variables in their history go into play here. Unless you've raised the dog from puppyhood, don't chance it.

I was in Florida late last year riding my bike down the side walk and in the distance I see two scrawny looking chicks with stupid tattoos walking a big dog (pit bull) towards me. Once the dog sees me I can see them start to panic. So before I get near them the drag the dog off the sidewalk an behind a bush while one holds his collar an the other girl stands in front of it when I am riding by (they both gave me a stank look as well, like I was in the wrong)... the dog is braking and growling fiercely the whole time. I couldn't help but to think "what a stupid bitch" That dog could have easily killed all three of us and clearly wasn't in its right mind. But a pit bull was the ultimate accessory for a little white bitch covered in tattoos and with dreadlocked hair. Also she can now put "dog mom" in her Tinder profile like 93% of girls on tinder. If that dog would have gotten loose and killed me I would have been pissed.... I'm to hung to die

Had a pit bull charge me once while I was walking around this neighborhood. Frothing at the mouth and going ape shit. Somehow, I faced off with him while talking calmly and backed out of the situation.

I have no intention of owning a such dog but if I was in the market for a pitbull, I'd only buy from an exhibitor at a major dog show.

If we ban pitbulls though, then we should surely ban the following as well. The below breeds are way more dangerous than pits.

• Presa Canario - This breed was already in the headlines once for eating a woman in SF.
• Dogo Guatemalteco - aka Guatemalan Bull Terrier
• Filo Brasilero - Amazonian killing machine
• Dogo Argentino - Patagonian killing machine
• Boerboel - South African killing machine and culprit in majority of dog attacks there
• Cane Corso - descendent of the Molassus, the Roman legion dog of war
• Caucasian Ovcharka - 200-pound bear hunter that should only be in the hands of the Russian military

The Cane Corso may be a descendant of the molossian, but so are most of these dogs mentioned. The molossian breeds are descendants of a dog that was used as a farm dog guard dog and war dog, from the place Molossia in Greece, the breed is not Roman, and so is the Irish Wolfhound, the Celts took it from Ancient Greece.

That's interesting, but these are all incredibly uncommon dogs. Pit bulls are all over the place.

I would be completely in favor of requiring some sort of license to own a dangerous dog that would keep them out of the hands of clueless owners who don't train (or use) them properly. That would probably cut down pit bull related injuries by at least 95%.

There's nothing special about the process.

You take a breed designed to kill dangerous animals and you make lots of them. You fight them against each other and breed the most savage, effective killers (the survivors). Do that 100 times and you have an animal that just as stupid to own domestically as a full-blooded wolf.

Alternately you can breed the least bloodthirsty ones while still keeping the general look but once you're 50 generations into the process of making the ultimate killing machine even the "good ones" have a nasty tendency to go savage unexpectedly.

People that own wolves that have been raised totally in captivity still understand this simple logic. For some reason it escapes most pitbull enthusiasts. These dogs are not even suitable as guard dogs. They are bred for the sole purpose of killing shit and at best you get one that's only 67 generations into the process rather than the full 100 that has to literally be kept in a cage until it's time to go kill other dogs for sport.

Let's say I had a gun of a type that was proven to have a nasty tendency to go off by itself when children were around.

Would it matter how much I assured people that "I got that part fixed" or "my particular one doesn't have that problem" with the excuse added of "but you don't understand how much I just really like this particular kind of gun, and anyway it's my right...".

People would tell me to stop being a fucking idiot and just get a proper gun, not just because it's the polite thing to do in a society but because nobody walking down the street while I'm carrying it has the slightest fucking clue about whether my particular child-killing gun has been fixed, or isn't loaded today, or whatever.

Give them all the snip except for licensed breeders and in ten years there's no problem. License them to hog-hunters and close the chapter on this stupidity.

p.s. I've met a woman who told me her pits were the love of her life "but don't drop that package off while I'm away, last time someone came to the gate the male got so worked up he attacked the female and she nearly died".

I did some casual research on this a ways back, and it seemed like the people who were the firmest in the corner of pit bulls were just like SJWs, but with a dog breed.

I saw a video where they showed a pit bull mauling a little girl, and the pit bull supporter watched it and criticized the little girl for how she was acting around the dog.

There are some seriously crazy people who have taken this as their cause, and, like with feminism or homelessness or immigration, it all seems like an excuse to wish the worst on other people while pretending to have the moral high ground.

There is a fair amount of women in my town with pit bulls on leashes that have no ability or inclination to control their dogs, and they seem to be leaching off the dog's powerful nature and taking it for their own.

I can tell you for certain that if their dog attacked you they would not care in the slightest, and would immediately start screeching about what was going to happen to their dog.

At least could we agree that no woman should own one?

I used to (briefly) do group rides on my Yamaha with a guy who would eternally tailgate either the car he was behind or the rider in the group he was behind.

I asked him why he thought that was OK. He said "because my reflexes are so fast that I can do it safely."

I asked him "even if that were true, how does the person you're tailgating know that? Do you think they feel safe having someone follow that close without knowing that the guy on the bike has superhuman reflexes?"

My question found purchase momentarily somewhere deep down where he wasn't a self-centered libertarian fuckwit and was actually a functional human member of society with a sense of obligation to his fellow man, but his brash ego brushed the whole thing away pretty quickly and I made my excuses not to ride with him again.

That's the way I look at people walking pit-bulls that aren't trained to the nth degree, which is frankly all of them I've ever seen. As debeguiled notes. For 99% of those owners it's an excuse to act like a fuckwit while not specifically breaking any laws that will bring society's wrath directly down on their heads.

I forgot to mention this in my original post: when my cousin's pit bit my ankle because I so rudely walked in the front door and happened to make eye contact with it, my cousin blamed me for provoking the dog. I was absolutely baffled by this until I learned more about the SJW mentality of many pit owners. It's like the normal, reasonable person I knew disappeared and became this fanatic who valued an aggressive animal over my own safety.

This also coincided with her going full SJW and calling Trump every name in the book.

I believe many white pit owners use pits as a virtue signaling proxy to show how anti-racist and tolerant they are.

You incorrectly assumed the dog knew by instinct you were the alpha and that, guess what. You weren't. Not based on the fact you are a human but based on the observations of an animal that has no social media or alternative motive. He knew you were beta and decided he was the alpha. Fix it or get over it, this wasn't the dog, this was a man who learned he wasn't an alpha, and is now using his big brain to place blame.

*Edit* funny that the OP is now blaming Pitbulls to be related to SJW, like the dogs can choose their owners.

I just took my pit bull on a nice walk around the hood.

He's friendly with some people. Mostly he tanks away at the leash. Then I go to put him in the kennel and he bites me. I'm confused.

I use to walk ppls dogs because I was a lonely kid growing up in a leftist hell hole that none the less had beautiful country to roam in, and once have choked out a boxer that was playing with a couple dogs I was off leash walking thru the hills, he went from playing to switched 'on'...bully breeds play differently with dogs again due to the fact that they enjoy 'close-quarter', very mouthy activities. Just go to the dog park and you'll see how even thru play dogs will conform to their breeding... its painfully obvious if you choose to do more than 'own' a dog vs. interact and encompass the animal you will be caring a decade for. But if most ppl won't invest more than a token effort superficially in their own food choices working out health family etcetcetc...can't expect dog ownership to excel either i guess.
