aupair and couch surfing events

I'm too far outside a major city to take advantage of the usual use of these sites, but how about the events hosted or frequented by couch surfers or Au Pairs?

What are the logistics of these events, which ones are worth while to attend, and how to belong? Any info is appreciated!
