Good to have a datasheet right around the corner. Good stuff. The cool thing about that area is you are so close to many other hot spots and beaches.

Your data sheet on Guadalajara was great. Gave me some insights on latin women, and your stories were great. I'll be in the area for a while, so if you want to meetup, that would be cool.

I was in Merida for about 3 weeks a couple of years ago and I absolutely loved it. I'm thinking about heading down there next month. In general, I think it makes a great base of operations for Mexico. Last time I was down there I tried to swim in as many cenotes as possible, it's crazy because I probably jumped in like 50 of those things and I barely scratched the surface. People will have these gorgeous cenotes in their backyards. I did rent a car which made a big difference.

I remember going to La Negrita and having a blast, I stayed at The Hotel Diplomat which was expensive but pretty badass. I just got out of an LTR and I'm looking forward to drinking and fucking Latinas for a couple of months and I figure I could do much worse than Merida.

I look forward to any updates/more info in this thread.

Fantastic data sheet, you know I never really considered Merida for its women, had no idea it was over 1million people I always thought it was more like a large pueblo.

Might have to combine a trip out from CDMX to Yucatan, been meaning to check out Tulum as well could knock 2 in one trip.

Ah geez, no kidding. I am originally from Texas I am definitely accustomed to outrageously humid summers.
Even though I like the sun, the humidity is a different story.

I can imagine that this area is the same because of the water and area right?

Thanks man glad I could give my insight and experience. Yes, I'm looking at flights now, I just need to pick a date. I am finishing up things here in the states. Where in Mexico will you be?

I'm going to pop in CDMX first then GDL, from there the Yucatan. It would be cool to meet up.

RE: Merida, Mexico Datasheet 2018 by Waqqle
I've been living here for the last 3 months.

As has been said, it is incredibly safe for the region. The locals are chilled and friendly. I don't think i've seen any aggro here once in my time, not even any passive aggression from anyone. Just a very pleasant vibe.

The women here, for me at least, are unattractive. Probably the worst i've ever encountered. Fat and squat is a common theme. They are pleasant natured, but just distincty unnattractive verging on ugly. In my experience if you see somewhat attractive girls around here, they will be from another region of Mexico. The Yucatanese are just, well, it's all subjective, by to my tastes ugly.

I live in a beautiful little find on the edge of town, in what was a village of around 5000, now is a suburb due to the city's growth. It's super peaceful and cheap. 200USD pcm for a very modern little bungalow on a large property owned by a yoga centre. A real find. As pleasant as it is, there is very little in the way of excitement round here it is just a typical, sleepy place.

I have a girl i've been sleeping with here, from Tinder. A pleasant another girl from the north, but a mid thirties single mom, so nothing beyond sex and the odd day out. Franky i dont really bother with the centre much, because i am 42, and having given the bar scene a spin here around 3-4 times, have always been disappointed. The centre itself is not great IMHO. Too many cars, and quite disperesed bars. At night sometimes you walk around looking for any kind of action and find things shutting inexplicably. However no expert here, as not really my thing these days.

Went to a club once with a 20s lad who was staying in my previous pad. Not my scene musically, reggaetron / latinpop, seemed a bit of a cockfest so we left. Beyond that cant really add to much discussion.

In conclusion, it's a very safe, and cheap spot maybe for a few months if you can earn of your computer, or are working on some projects personally. I spend my life going to the gym here in between that, and eating very healthily. I'm not that much of a foody, and dont eat in restaurants as i do KETO and that sort of thing is not really available. My pal here says it's ok, but not as good as the other regions of Mexico foodwise, but i dunno.

I wouldn't recommend it as a destination for a holiday seeking action. Just think there must be better spots for that. It's more a chilled place, and a base to explore local natural spots and archeological sites really. Maybe it's just that i'm fundamentally not attracted to the local 'type', but there you go.

^You summed it up well, Merida is a nice relaxing city to chill in and a great spot to focus on work projects but not very good for night life or chicas. I think it’s a good spot for older dudes who value peace, tranquility and cleanliness over pussy and partying, at 36 I’m liking the more chill spots more and more.

Also probably a good place to raise a family I'm assuming.

Pretty much. A great place to retire to, i dont doubt, but i have to say at this point i'm looking fwd to leaving. I went to the centre tonight, thought i'd check a few bars, maybe get chatting to some tourists, see what's going on. It just feels very lukewarm. I really dont like the centre physically. It's a bit of a warren of streets, is claustrophobic, has bad air from all the cars, and the tourist places are snazzy soulless kinda restaurants for most part.

Sometimes beyond girls, i just want to nurse a few drinks in a dive bar, chat to the staff, any expats, just have a 'local'. I dont think there's anywhere like that here, not for my tastes at least. The Mayan Pub is the best of a bad lot IMHO. It's ok, but as i think was mentioned earlier is not really super social, more just independent groups sitting on tables.

All that being said, the people are warm and likeable. Thing with me, as i just dont feel any kind of connection on any level to the place or the people. This is my first time living outside of Europe/Aus (lived all over there, but always Euro countries), and i dunno, i just dont relate to them here. I just feel detached, and alien, which of course I am, and wouldnt really expect otherwise.

I guess if there was a nice little bar street where you could go and crawl and meet some expats, listen to some tunes and generally have a sense of expat community beyond the retirees, then it might be worth sticking around. As things stand, i'll be heading back to Europa soon enough...

I agree with Elmore on the music scene here. The musics kinda ratchet for my taste. On top of that, most of the people here dance cumbia, even to salsa music. Kinda grinds my gears.

On the other hand, everyone here is super friendly, and I have hobbies that keep me occupied. It’s also easy to get quality food here on the cheap. I get grassfed beef here for about 4.50 dollars a pound. I’m also keto down here, so I can’t really comment on the local cuisine.

Maybe it’s because it’s my first time out the states, but I think there’s a lot of cute girls out here. That might change when I go somewhere else.

Elmore, I would love to meet up with you before you leave. I have yet to meet with someone on the forum.

LOL I was talking to a pair of girls by myself tonight, when FIVE other guys came over and tried to hit on them at the same time. Like, WTF bro's? You think we're gonna pull a gangbang or some shit?

I'll be in CDMX on April 10th but more so the 11th because I arrive late on Wednesday. I'll be around for at least 5-7 days. I may stay longer but I want to do more traveling this time around.

I was thinking about going to CDMX on the 18th to catch a bit of semana de santa, but I hear Progreso gets pretty lit around that time... So maybe the 23rd of this month. Nothings really set in stone though.

I’ll be all over Mexico the next 5 weeks from tulum and playa del Carmen the next 2 weeks, then Mérida for a week, then a week I left open and last week in Mazatlan. Message to meet up if itineraries match up. Will be enjoying lots of night and day game. Always like to meet cool friends to go out with and chill.

So I will not be staying me merida for much longer. While it does have it's charms, I want something more modern and clean. That's why I'll be heading to Monterrey on Saturday. If I can find the time, I would still like to meet up with someone off this site. But we'll see what happens.
