Most herpes viruses can (and will) be contracted in all possible manners. Holding on to a handle on the subway and touching your nose etc. is enough to be infected. Most adults will have herpes 1-5, even though they are sexually "conservative." It`s a good idea to try to maintain good hygiene in order to avoid latent viruses like most herpes viruses are though. The immune system can`t get rid of them, and some are very immune dominant like herpes 5. (CMV) They will age your immune system faster than if you didn`t have them. So the longer you can live without contracting these viruses the better. Of course risky and/or frequent sex will expose you to more pathogens. Hopefully a cure will come along soon. Probably via gene therapy.

I remember reading a few years ago that a priest had put his mouth on a baby's penis after they preformed a circumcision and the baby had herpes.

I read the article. While I understand this is performed as part of a religion I can't help but feel sick at the thought of this. The scary thing is the article suggested this is the 13th reported case of it since 2000 in which oral herpes was passed on.

This is exactly why i NEVER eat communal food.
Like a work potluck or food left out and it is "serve yourself".

Over the years I've witnessed:

• The big people use their hands to get food on their plate when there are large spoons and tongs.
• A woman drinking directly from the ladel used to serve some type of fruity punch drink.
• A guy currently fighting a cold that sneezed all over the uncovered food and pretended like nothing happened because no one was looking.
• And just overall poor hygiene
