^ Yeah, exactly. Some people really dig the vibe in Colombia despite all this but I’m not one of them.

I’ve been reading the discussion with interest. Seems like it’s up to personal preference.

I personally like the US but long-term it is not a safe choice due to all the mental health issues, workaholism and the fact that people don’t have deep friendships. The “I don’t have real friends” is a testament to that.

I’ve consistently had a good feeling about Brazilians abroad but I haven’t made it there yet. South-Africa I added to the list.

Disagree with the notion that work and family are somehow chores that get in the way of better things I could be doing. A lot of people happen to get most of their life's satisfaction from loving their work and spending time with their families. It's worked for man for so long, this ethic is also deeply engrained into our biology. Hardly seems contemptible to lose the attachment for childhood friends, as obligations change once you have dependents to look after.
