Anytime I made the drive from Chicago (hometown metro area) or Detroit (current home metro area) to the South, I'd always stop & eat at Waffle Houses. I agree with the other posts here about the Waffle House brand & its small town charm. I was saddened to hear this news today. Hope they catch the perp.

He probably hails from one of the "Deliverance" or "Gummo" seeming parts of Illinois if I had to wager a guess. Then again the Sandy Hook shooter sorta had that look & Connecticut is arguably the wealthiest state in the USA.

Almost exactly a year ago there was a very similar story - also not widely reported.

As someone suggested in another thread, the media is focusing on the AR15 deliberately, while ignoring say, the AK47 and its many derivatives. Why? Well, the AR15 is more closely tied to all things American that the left hates, while the other is a symbol associated with communism, world wide.

Though either is useful in the narrative, for them the AR15 is a a better prop.

What they want is the "Assault Gun" Ban to come back. After that they will focus on handguns and retroactive Assault Gun turn-ins. They will use state level until they can pivot to federal level.

Only thing that could stop them dead in their political tracks would be a huge smackdown at the Supreme Court. That's risky so they know they will try to avoid that at all costs.

I may go against the grain here, but I'm not convinced the media/political narrative in America is about a gun grab. There's huge money in guns and both the left and right are paid off.

I believe it's more about a shaming campaign against the right and conservative people, who are more likely to be gun owners. "Owning an AR-15 means that's more important to you than dead children". And you better vote the way we want you to or you're a racist, mysoginist anti semite child killer.

I agree 100%. I'm just hoping the left continues to operate on this level of mental retardation.

I was recently in Vermont visiting friends. A typically very liberal populace, who also loves their guns, are starting to shift. Not that they will go red in 2020 but I bet they will go more so than in 2016.
