I use one large 15 inch macbook pro retina for day to day stuff, and I have another 13 inch macbook pro retina as a backup. I keep virtually everything on the cloud, so that if my main macbook dies or needs to go in for repairs, I can be up and running on the 13 inch macbook in a few minutes.

I buy my macbooks at a great price, used, and usually still under warranty. I go for macbooks that have been upgraded to the most they can be or close to it by the prior owner. Then I usually sell them a year or two later for one or two hundred more than I bought them for because I'm not in a hurry to sell.

Because of the warranties, I've had over $1000 in free repairs done on my macbooks just in the last year. If they run out of warranty and I still own them, I take them in to the mac store anyways, Apple often does repairs for free, even big repairs, for lots of reasons.

Chrome is the way to go on a mac and dropbox is a great cloud service. Have a backup computer and buy a machine with maxed out specs when someone else needs to sell and sell that machine when you don't need to sell.

You don't want to be stuck in Asia having to buy a new macbook.

You also don't want to have to take time off from work or other productive activities just because your computer is in the shop, so prepare accordingly by having a backup machine.

For people that often use their laptops on their lap or in bed I'd recommend getting your computer opened up and cleaned once or twice a year, I had some overheating problems due to so much shit inside it... dog hair etc.

The updated MBP's are apparently coming out Q4 last time I checked. I plan on getting a new one then even though mine still works pretty good after 3 years. It is pretty tough I've dropped it once or twice and the performance is still pretty good outside of a few things like the backlit keys not working.

Lol at paying more than $50 for a laptop.

10 years old IBM plus Linux = win.

People practically give these things away cause they can barely run Windows XP (and for sure not 7 or Win 10).

They can easily run some lightweight Linux Debian and work perfectly fine as workhorse machines (make a SWAP file for extra RAM). No one can tell either how old they are since every IBM Thinkpad used to look the same.
