According to CNN and their headline article this morning, Europe is considering striking back at the United States and President Trumps decision to assess tariffs to steel and aluminum by putting their own tariffs on cranberries and peanut butter.

Better stock up and hunker down. This could be the end of civilization as we know it.

How is the EU putting an iimport tariff on american peanuts and cranberries going to cause a shortage in america?
I doubt very much the EU is going to put an export tariff on its own goods.

OP, it's the other way around. The EU is considering what products from the US that are exported to Europe it should put a tariff on.

Long story short, the price of cranberries and peanuts would rise in Europe and probably drop in the US.

In Europe peanut butter is not really consummed (it's funny, most of the time I will talk to Frenchmen about peanut butter -which we eat in Senegal- and they don't even know what is is).

On the other hand I always see Americans on the reality TV Survivor go crazy for peanut butter (like Jenna Morasca and Heidi Strobel in Survivor the Amazon, stripping for chocolate and peanut butter- google it if you want )

Tremble, USA, if we stop exporting that!

Edit: it seems like it's the other way around. Oh well, it does not matter then. If it was Nutella, then it would have been another issue...

Not quite. The price of cranberries and peanuts made by US companies would rise making them less competitive with cranberries and peanuts made by EU producers.

At least that's the idea.

More realistic impact is what CNN calls a "trade war" is that the U.S. raises tariffs on European automobiles like BMW and mercedes from 2.5% to 10% to match the tariff that Europe imposes on U.S. autos. I love the taste of Skippy, but is it unhealthy compared to those natural peanut butters (which taste like ass but are supposedly good for you)?
