That strikes me as clearly weird by American standards, but it also strikes me as the kind of weirdness that shouldn't be a national controversy.

I've lived in a few latino countries. And even in for example France that wouldn't be anything strange at all, but for people from the Anglo culture it seems to be obviously. The guy is married with a woman from Brazil as far as I know and it was obviously not done in any sexual way whatsoever. Talk about making a fuss over nothing.

In fact, when I stayed with a family in France I was seen as a bit cold for not greeting the parents in the family with a kiss and hug every morning. I remember that they were surprised when I told them that I actually didn't even greet my real parents back home with a kiss and hug every morning/night. I remember them telling me that they thought that seemed a bit cold.
And I actually agree with them now, when I build a family I'd like us to show more affection towards each other, it is bonding and we as humans need physical affection.

So many kids grow up today with parents who are more into their smartphones and show little affection and attention for their kids, lets focus on that problem first.

I think the second kiss was a little strange but it's not my place to throw judgment on a family's way of showing affection.

Personally I didn't grow up in a super affectionate environment with my dad and that's ok.

Growing up, I got up and did my chores and my father's way of showing affection was maybe an occasional hug or a "good job". That was it. The kissing and "Oh I love you so much" was stuff mom said to my brother and I. Dad was pretty much stone cold emotionally, and I'm sure that's just something he learned from his father and so on.

Women often have told me that I'm closed off emotionally and perhaps it's because I didn't grow up in a super affectionate household from both parents or I'm just not wired that way. It's probably a combo of both.

I had a friend when I was young that would peck his dad on the lips. I always thought it was bizarre but looking back it was just a cultural thing.

That said, I would never imagine kissing my dad on the lips or any family member. Just never have. My mom kisses me on the head or be check but never the lips.

The outrage towards Brady seems mostly from people that hate the family unit and fathers in general.

Personally I don't do it, but there are different families out there. I met ones where the entire family went around naked even while the teenage daughters were 16. They were utterly normal, the father was an Alpha patriarch and they only did this on special occasions among themselves with zero sexualization. And no - he did not kiss his daughters with the tongue.

I personally would not do it, because I am wired differently and I would probably not kiss my son that way, but I don't see any sexual intent there. It's just what Brady's family does.

I don't know if that's true, but the first time I watched the video I definitely was a little uncomfortable, but at the same time it's more of a "that's weird to me" versus "holy shit he's molesting his kid.

I think it's likely something that he's done with his kids (as evidenced by him and his father still kissing) from since they were young and his son is getting to the point where on camera and around other people especially he's starting to get a little shy/embarassed. There are MANY things that sons (and daughters) do with their parents that are nothing but familial affection that is non-sexual which later in life ends at some point. The post about that actor that dresses his son up as a girl and the various disturbing comments/posts he makes about it are another whole category of shit that is likely demented.

Different tribes have different norms and some of them look REALLY weird to others.

For example, it used to be that men that met each other would give each other very firm handshakes and be real enthusiastic at this touch (now I dread the limp fish). Men who were close would hug tight (not this arm in between shit that has become so common as a barrier). I prefer to hug girls, but my close guy friends I hug too. This barrier to touch as if it's instantly gay or perverted is stupid. Humans need touch. Physical touch has been shown to improve our health and outlook.

Men used to be (I guess still are but to lesser and lesser degree) very comfortable walking around naked in front of each other in locker rooms because there actually wasn't anything sexual about it. Now, I'm not saying I necessarily WANT to walk around with naked men, but people try to shame some dude that's in the locker room naked while changing like as if he's doing it to somehow be sexual with other dudes. I thought the timing of the video's release was weird. I had just arrived home from our monthly Illuminati meetup, having voted for the Eagles to be awarded the Lombardi. This reminds me of a common trope.

If I have a daughter or a son, and they don't feel like kissing or hugging granpa, granma, some weird uncle or anyone... they don't have to. I wouldn't force them to, even if it's me, as their father.

Kids need boundaries but should also have autonomy over their bodies at the least.

Brady here was just humiliating his son and making him uncomfortable to prove who knows what. It wasn't a display of affection, more a really awkward display of dominance. It's not sexual, but it is a power play. Can't respect that.
