‘Black Widow': Blacklist Alum Jac Schaeffer to Write Marvel Movie

Marvel Studios has picked Blacklist Screenwriter Jac Schaeffer to write “Black Widow,” the first solo film featuring the marvel superhero played since 2010 by Scarlett Johansson, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Schaeffer made her feature screenwriting debut with the 2009 Tribeca film “TiMER,” which she also directed. She wrote the 2014 Blacklist pick “The Shower,” a female-centric sci-fi action comedy with Anne Hathaway attached to star and produce, as well as “Nasty Women,” a remake of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” at MGM set to star Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. Schaeffer most recently penned the Disney short “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” which played before screenings of Pixar’s “Coco.”

I can already predict a few of the scenes.

She's going to roundhouse kick 5 linebacker sized men in the face and hit someone in the nuts while muttering some one liner.

Then she's going to do a flip kick and pop a squat on some other dude in slow motion.

She''ll then have some romantic thing where her fuck buddy turns out to be against her in the end or something.

Only a woman can be allowed to write the screenwriter for this movie because it stars a strong woman character.

Women must have a place in male films and spaces because of toxic misogyny. We need more women writing the screenplays with male films and soon we need less male stars as well.

And after the horrific failure of Ghost in the Shell? That movie only made $168 million on a budget of $110 million plus another $50 in ads. The studio lost $70-90 million on that!

Any thinking person could see that ScarJo just can't bring people into theaters. She's fine as a secondary character in Avengers but, on her own, she tanks.

Wonder Woman (as ordinary..., ordinary a film as it was) already took the throne for first major stand-alone female superhero film.
Not to mention, if this Black Widow movie is more in the espionage wheel-house.
Between Mission Impossible, Taken & many more, it will hardly be a stand out narrative.

I think Marvel was smart enough to stay away and let DC try first after the failures of recent female led movies such as GhostBusters.

Now they're thinking 'If the dumpster fire that is DC Studies can churn out a successful female led superhero movie then it should be no problem for us'.

With regards to an espionage narrative, Marvel did a great job with Captain America 2. I completely agree with everyone saying ScarJo doesn't have the charisma to lead a film like this, but then its not like Gal Gadot was Oscar worthy and she did fine.

Still there's a big difference between a feminine lead like Gal's Wonder Woman and the snark/better than the boys attitude of ScarJo's Black Widow.

I trust Marvel movies way more than I do DC when it comes to film so I'm a little more optimistic than you guys. At least until the comics bullshit catches up.

A standalone Black Widow movie is way more palatable than the Captain Marvel solo movie that's in the works. In the comics they went and gave her a full lesbian haircut just to make her even more feminist. I've never met a girl in real life with that hair style who wasn't a complete wack job.

We had Emma Peel (Diana Rigg) on the British TV show The Avengers back in the 60s who was the clear inspiration for Black Widow right down to the leather catsuit, so if they go the more fun Kingsman 60s style of spy movie rather than the stick-up-the-arse style that the modern Bonds have, it could be enjoyable.

If she dresses slutty, wears a leather catsuit for most of the movie, and ScarJo hasn't porked up in the past few years, I'd consider seeing it. Might as well get a last look at her impressive rack before gravity starts taking full effect, and a last look at the face powered up by makeup before she hits the Wall.

Edit: Secondary Characters shouldn't have their own movies. Don't think a Hawkeye, a Vision, or Scarlet Witch movie would be successful either. Their rolls aren't big enough.

I like Black Widow as a secondary character in MCU, but I agree with everyone else that she will not work well as a primary heroine. Her Character has been explored enough already in all the many movies with her as a secondary character. No other Avenger has their own movie after he has been a supporting character in like 5 or more other movies. Also Scarlet Johannson was still in her prime in Iron Man 2 and in Avengers, but is now declining in her looks rapidly and is transitioning from a young actress full of joy and life into an aged single mother with short hair, cats, feminist bitterness and degenerate political views.


I predict on overall that MCU will continue to be cool until Infinity Wars that was the initially planned final stage and will degrade afterwards into a hollow and boring franchise for shameless cash in and leftist propaganda.

I'm of a similar opinion.
Black Panther might be fine (despite the 'we waz kangz' subtext).
Infinity War should be a big spectacle that has to focus on said spectacle.

Yet once Captain Marvel with forever millennial bitch, Brie Larson, comes into play & now with news of a stand alone Black Widow.
I can see the MCU losing the plot; especially if the recent state of Marvel comics is any gauge.

Even merging the X-Men with Avengers is no guarantee, as the X-Men are all about minority rights.
