I feel that the motivation for undertaking this stuff comes down to two things:

1). Challenge yourself to succeed at something you didn't think you could do;
2). Do it for attention.

Clearly there is an overlap in somethings, like the people who climb Everest and take selfies at the top. That's a major accomplishment, and yeah, why wouldn't you advertise that? However, many of the other things people like this guy do are mainly for the likes and attention.

The main motivation for trying something dangerous shouldn't be "Man, think of all the likes I'll get on YouTube.". Rather, it should be "By attempting this, I'm overcoming something that scares me, and I'll can translate that to overcoming other obstacles in my life."

Actually this is closer to men doing daring and dangerous things not only for thrills, but for money and fame. It was his job and he was proficient at climbing, but clearly underestimated the slippery nature of some of today's polished architecture.

He slipped and fell miscalculating something - that is all. The funny part is that this part of the male psyche is actually good and proper. This will happen again and again - men will risk extraordinary things for fame and glory.

I have seen similar accidents happen at lower altitudes with experiences rock climbers - it takes one error to wipe out years of adherence for safety.

Evel Knievel had a dangerous job but as far as I know he did several tests and back ups. Same goes to other guys like stuntmen. Or a Formula 1 driver. The main difference is, are you a professional or a jerk. A jerk don't calculate the risk, they don't do back up. You can just drive to the office by the car and get killed, stuff happen. But you don't leave the seatbelt off, ignore street signs and traffic lights to prove how manly and fast you can get to the office. If you do so, you are a jerk. When you go to a race track, have a cage inside your car and some safety plan, you are kind of a pro. When you are a firefighter, policeman, soldier, in a mountain rescue team or climb wind wheels to do some installation, you do it with training and back up, still stuff can happen. Climb on a building with no backup is stupid. Simple. This guy was a jerk.
