There is another factor. Companies don't have to do nearly as much work to translate action movies. Action is still action, no matter what the language is. Of course, this works for every movie market--Japan, Korea, Europe, Mexico, India. Action is still action.

Making movies more global is a race to the bottom - Hollywood studios try to make to make the movies more generic than ever to appeal to global audiences. I also get pissed off when I see a fucking Chinese actress (who usually can't act) get shoehorned into every other Hollywood movie.

India actually has the biggest amount of cinema-goers in the world but their ticket prices are way cheaper than the US and China. Indians are way more interested in Indian movies...the biggest grossing Indian movies of 2017 is Dangal, it made $193M in China. Guess who co-produced it? Even so, Disney is pulling out of Indian movie production and concentrating on Consumer products in India.

Compared to last year when Rogue One debuted, the overall U.S./Canada weekend B.O. is +28%.
