Since being divorced, I have usually gone to Miami and stayed in South Beach for a few days over Xmas. Fun times, got laid a couple times, got robbed by some chick I picked up drunk at 4am on Ocean Dr one Xmas night who I knew was trouble but did not give a fuck. Helped me immensely to get over the pain of not being with my kids and it really doesn't feel like Xmas down there. Hard to be depressed sitting on a beach in beautiful weather. I try to go every year at Xmas since my ex gets the kids every Xmas (I'm not Christian so I was ok with it). It's actually pretty busy then with enough single chicks down there then. This year unfortunately I won't be able to go because the IRS wants a bunch of money from me so I figured I had better pay them if I ever want to see South Beach again. I'll go see my parents, sister and her family instead, which will be fun and relaxing.

As for NYE, yeah it's amateur night so I try to avoid going out but I think I'm going to be stuck going out this NYE.

I get a kick out of spoiling my young relatives and cousin's kids during this time of the year. They are genuinely good kids so I like shopping for some stuff they want.


Christmas time is fun if you see it from the perspective of children. If you want a non jaded Christmas experience just turn off the tv and computer and not let your mind get polluted with mainstream interpretation of how you're supposed to celebrate Christmas.

Then again I have good relations with most of my family/extended relatives because we are a drama free bunch. Plus all my relatives are spread out all over the world so it's really rare for us to see one another.

I've been seeing this girl since August or so. She's got some red flags. Despite all that I'm pretty crazy about her.

She knows the holidays are hard for me. Day before yesterday I was kind of a dick for no reason, came home from work and drank myself to sleep, told her not to come over.

Yesterday I woke up feeling better, told her to come over.

I got home from work last night and this bitch hung christmas lights up on the outside and inside of my house, hung a stocking for me filled with tons of thoughtful gifts, zip tied some misteltoe to the ceiling (the same zip ties I use to restrain her wrists sometimes when we're fucking) brought more presents besides the stocking, candy, had a bottle of 18 year scotch open, and was lounging peacefully on the couch with my cats. It almost brought a tear to my eye. Almost. Enough to warm this cold black heart.

It was about the best Christmas present I've ever gotten.

You know, this Christmas has been a bit different.

Gave out a few small gifts to the building maintenance guys. Blew their minds and made their day.

Went to a Christmas eve party and had a blast. Today, I've got the smoker going and trying my hand at brisket. So far the whole place smells incredible and it's looking mighty fierce.

So far, it has actually been a rather pleasant time of year!

Still hate Christmas music though and at the party we quickly switched it to some catchy pop music.

Have to say Christmas as a whole actually turned out very good. Still going to make it more immediate, local and personal next year though. Now gonna listen to Merry Rooshmas.

Today has definitely made me realize how great it is to be on this forum and be aware as a whole.

3. Christmas music. It's not like it starts creeping earlier and earlier each year. I thought I heard jingle bells playing on October 18th. I am sick of the hearing the same crappy Christmas music over and over again. If I hear that stupid Paul McCartney Christmas song again, i'm going to go postal.

4. Buying expensive gifts. Thankfully, this year we've elected to do a secret santa for the whole family instead of a massive gift exchange. Years before, however, it's a gift madhouse and businesses know this. Don't think they aren't jacking up the prices for this. I get happy when I hear that retailers didn't meet their Q4 Christmas goals for the year prior in late Jan/early Feb.

5. It's cold. Winter sucks, except for winter sports and even then the cold still sucks. I'm happy I now live in a climate where I can treat snow like a cute novelty instead of a forced yearly experience of hell.

What else drives you nuts about this time of year?

1. Makes it easier to spit a single girl since they'll all be with their guy at this time. Makes them extra eager to find a young stud.

2. I've been made aware you're point is a myth a d that date had been set as the birth of Christ since a while ago.

3. The music makes people festive and encourages those who usually are more reserved to sing along since everyone always knows most the words.

4. Gifts are a great way to show your friends and family that you care about them and are aware of what they need or want. Don't have to buy crazy stuff, but anyone who expects something stupid pricey simply to stay in vogue is more a sign of you picking shitty people to stay with .

5.the cold is awesome, jackets look great and you can't wear some of those spiffy get ups in warm climates.


This time of year is awesome.

I hate the awful christmas pop music in the shops, cafes and everywhere else you go, that they play on repeat every day for weeks on end.
Makes me want to avoid entering or buying/consuming anything anywhere until Janaury comes along.

Damn that really sucks, Roosh. I grew up near the Alps as a kid many many years ago and I remember Christmas as the most magical time of the year. In the 'olden days' winter solstice was a very special but also difficult time of the year. It was COLD and staying warm and not freezing to death required much effort. Food supplies were the result of hard work throughout the preceding year. Celebrating this time with family and closed ones and taking stock of what had been accomplished was a way of closure and helped deepen family bonds.

The cynical attitude that many of you seem to have been internalizing plays exactly in the hands of our enemies. I mean if the holiest time of the year means nothing to you then don't turn around and complain about the destruction of family values and unmitigated licentiousness.

Roosh: Go out there and buy yourself a f..ing chicken, some ribs, or steak, whatever floats your boat. Do your best to cook it to perfection and if possible share the meal with someone you care about. You'll be surprised by what happens.

I don't get why more people don't buy their Christmas presents online instead. It used to take me hours to buy everything before when I went to shopping malls and there were always so many annoying people out, cold, too busy, loud kids, had to stand in line for ages, irritating music and idiots who can't drive. This year I think I spent about 30 minutes scrolling the web for Christmas presents and ordering everything and it came straight to the door, even for a cheaper price.

Online is great if you already know what to get, but I found something for my sister that just happened to be on the shelf that I probably never would have plugged into a keyword search if I were online. It's that process of discovery/surprise/serendipity that comes from roaming slowly through stores that really can't be duplicated online.

As far as being upset at Christmas in general, I know exactly why people get that way. Christmas is like being shown your happy childhood photos each and every year and being asked to compare who you were then when you were carefree and opening up packages to who you are now. It forces you to sort of judge your life against the happiest time and there's no way it's going to compare. When my daughter was young I could try to live vicariously through her but now she's grown up and so again I feel sort of a sense of disorientation with the Holiday. I don't get to either receive or give many gifts anymore.

This is exactly why It's a Wonderful Life's suicide attempt was oriented around Christmas or why A Christmas Carol is similarly full of flashbacks of Scrooge's regrets (like losing the girl to his avarice). It forces you to stop sleepwalking and reflect and pass judgment on your life.

Being angry at the Holiday doesn't solve any of the underlying issues. The Holiday isn't the problem. It's how we wind up building our life through decision after decision the other 364 days of each year.

I don't like this time of year either. At least not for the last few years.
My family are blue pilled and super competitive. All they want to do is ask you what you're doing, so they can compare it to their lives. I refuse to go to the luncheon.

Memories of midwestern corporate Christmas parties come to mind, with people missing after the vacation because they got fired for insulting someone above them on the totem pole.
