RE: The Altcoin (day) trading thread
What would you guys consider good characteristics for a new coin? For example you see a random coin, how do you decide to throw some money into it?

I've just traded the well known ones so far, but, I'm probably limiting myself by doing this.

Depends what your strategy and goal is really.

For short-term trades (hours to days)
1. Hype (exchange listing, announcement (eg IBM partners with XLM ->3x in 3h), news,,)
2. Releases (Alpha, Beta, V1.. even sometimes a new website release ffs)
3. Mix of team, product and market cap (correlated vs. competitors)

Mid-term (days to weeks)
1. Releases
2. Hype
3. Mix of team, product and market cap

Long-term (weeks, months to even longer (would advise against))
1. Mix of team, product and market cap
2. Releases
3. Hype

In terms of researching a coin (applies more for mid-long term as you won't sell the news but rather hold the coin/accumulate further on dips):
1. Whitepaper
2. Look at the product and ask yourself "Is this useful? (in combination with blockchhain)"
3. Who is the team behind it (check their linkedin, previous roles, advisors, history/news (some teams may look good at first until you find some scandals on them))
4. ICO price (check if there were massive discounts, dumping on listing, if it went smooth)
5. Past roadmap (did they deliver)
6. Future roadmap (am I not too late?)
7. Market cap (circulating vs. total supply, whether they will burn coins)
8. Compare market cap vs. competitors in the same industry/vertical (eg compare REQ vs. OMG or WTC vs. AMB or BNB vs KCS)
9. Sentiment on Social Media by the hodlers
10. Pretty advanced, but check their tech/code if it's available and how often they commit etc..

A winner is a good coin, that is still undiscovered (out of ICO, under the radar) and has competitors with bigger market caps where you think the team/roadmap of the coin you research might be better.

I don't see a whole lot of fire. A drop down to above yesterday's lowest level - after a brief upwards spike coinciding with the segwit2x cancellation announcement - and now BTC is slowly climbing upwards again.

Altcoins are certainly benefiting right now, but not really at much cost to BTC.

Agreed BTC isn't really benefitting but that's b cause there's soooo much new money in NTC, last week during one 24 hour period Coinbase signed up 100K ppl.

Asian hours begin soon, I sold my short term stack of LINK that I picked up at 15 cents near the top and just bought the OMG dip, I'm gambling on asian's waking up and backing the asian top coins like NEO and OMG.

If anything, this creates more uncertainty. Now we just don't know when we'll get dumped on.

Is there any data to prove that these so called "Asian coins" are actually traded and held by Asians more so than the Western ones or is it just hype?

Nope it's just obvious to me that they would go for their own coins.

Woke up to an easy +10-13% on OMG.

Next move is Request, just finished buying in, still under ICO but it has seen a nice upward trend since it crashed coming out of the gate. It is now traded on more exchanges, has weekly updates on Fridays (tomorrow) and a lot of hype around the project. Not to mention it has yet to have it's 15 minutes of fame, I think it's REQ's time to shine soon.

Disclaimer: Incase I didnt make that clear I bought Request so now that means you buy after me at a more expensive price so I can dump my bags on you.

RE: The Altcoin (day) trading thread
That was one niiice ride! Just got on PC when the 2X news dropped, have been holding mostly BTC during this stupid fork. Once the news dropped BTC mooned and then dumped, was able to get in to Asian coins (NEO, OMG, WTC) right at the BTC top.

Cashed out now on all these 3 coins and am all-in on REQ and ETH.
ETH: Chart looks very good, going parabolic and I can see a lot of money moving from BTC to ETH as a safe-haven
REQ: Now that all the weak hands are out, rumours about a token burn after the Binance fuckup and getting back to ICO price, this will be the lowest we'll ever see REQ. Ahead on roadmap, news coming Friday and still massively undervalued (REQ = $37M vs OMG = $804M)

The only problem is there was another hack where Parity multisig wallets were affected. ETH may not be the safe haven many people think it is.

Don't get me wrong, I hold some ETH and I want ETH to go up, too. But I would diversify across a few top coins, BTC being among them.

I'd probably refraim from going in 2 weeks prior to fork day. I can see a lot more sell offs for BTC.

The big question is whether BTC is going to dump at all after Nov 16 with the upcoming bitcoin Silver fork in December. From what I hear, s2x fork is the big anticipated fork and nobody cares much about the gold and silver forks.

RvF, you only had to listen Wink

KNC is probably the only one that didn't pump much, all the alts went up. I'm a bit confused because s2x is cancelled but I'm also hearing it's going through.

REQ mooning as I type, so is ETH, these last 2 days have treated me very well.

Edit: Just noticed EDO is also mooning, I picked it up at 1.9 dollars before the fork too on a friends recommendation. 120k wallet downloads on the app store and hybrid exchange being released this quarter, trading on finex too (under ICO which was 3 dollars), so loads of potential.

Disclaimer: My EDO bags are heavy so make sure to buy them directly from me at a premium.

HST, trading on ED with high volume, already x6 from ICO but they have confirmed 3 exchange listings, are only 8mil MC and 29mil circulating supply.

Disclaimer: Already bought in which allows me to dump bags on you.

Every day it's another handful of coins - give or take - that gets pumped, often seemingly out of nowhere.
My entirely unqualified opinion is that trading bots run by whales pull them out of their ass every 24 hours. Notice the unqualified part.

Zcoin (XZC) is exploding right now. It takes 1000 XZC to create a masternode. Seems like a good alternative to Monero. During a transaction coins are burned before being minted into new ones. Good long term hodl

Do you guys think that Litecoin will follow in Bitcoin and Ethereum's footsteps and have a substantial pump soon?

RE: The Altcoin (day) trading thread
Lots of stuff is going up now, once BTC price is stable, which it is, people go in search of gains elsewhere, and alts are obviously the go to. Litecoin specifically though, I don't know anything about, I think people are more likely to pump ETH as it has Casper pending release, people want to start accumulating for staking, I don't know if Litecoin has anything on the horizon that would give it momentum, someone else might want to weigh in on that.

BCH is still the hedge against BTC, with a great narrative and lots of manipulation and shilling going on, good potential for gains in one of the bigger MC coins along with ETH, but could also crash and burn just as easily.

Disclaimer: Coinbase owe me 1 BCH so I want this to pump so I can dump bags on you.

LTC has great volume and has the benefits of being one of the first cryptos out so it's on many exchanges. It's also an incredibly boring coin simply being "silver" to bitcoin. I think there are more interesting projects out there like Decred which allows users to stake their coins and vote on improvements.
