Pledge of Allegiance at sporting events
TLDR; American's should recite Pledge of Allegiance at professional/collegiate sporting events in response to protests from players.

**As I don't have enough posts I am putting this here even though it likely belongs in the Politics thread.**

In light of the events occurring in the NFL, NBA, MLS and other sports leagues with regards to President Trump, protesting, and the national anthem - Americans need a powerful way to show where our allegiances lie.

One way to show support for the United States, Trump, military and fellow Americans is to recite the Pledge of Allegiance - something that many of us did from a very young age at the start of each school day. Saying those words each day made me feel proud to be an American and created a sense of connection with those around me.

I propose that during professional sporting events a certain time should be designated for the Pledge of Allegiance recital (minute 17 or 76 in soccer | right after the national anthem in football/basketball).

While I lack the social connections to make something like this happen, I am sure individuals with greater reach could promote before NFL games so fans know when to say it. This would be especially potent if said after the national anthem, somewhat ostracizing NFL players disrespecting our country. Even if only 10% of the stadium did this, at a lull in the game it would be enough to be heard throughout the stadium.

What does the forum think of this as a way to fight back that would get media recognition? I'm curious about other ideas our community might have that are related to this.

You realize that the players kneeling support the military, right? You can argue that they should protest against police brutality in a different way, but they aren't actually against the military.

What is the point of this?

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.

Blind patriotism truly is the last refuge of a scoundrel. What does the pledge even mean? And why is it important?

I posted this in Everything Else even though it better reflects 'Politics' which I can't post in because I don't have enough posts.

In response to your earlier question:

Yes I am aware many of the protesters support the military. I never said they did not. I am stating that Americans can show their support for the causes I mentioned through the Pledge of Allegiance.

The protests against police brutality and racial discrimination should not be conducted during the national anthem but this has been discussed in other threads. My intention is to promote an avenue for Americans to stage their own protest against the disrespecting of the national anthem.

The goal is to promote support for the national anthem and all that it represents. I would gladly hear your other ideas if you feel there is something more poignant or relevant.

It is the American patriotic vow. I would only consider it blind if you mindlessly repeat the words. The intention isn't to force people to say it, but to think about what it means and its relevance today.

It is important because it can create a sense of unity and purpose in a community. To me it means you will do your part to secure the longevity and success of the American republic. Which today applies to fighting back against causes disrespecting the flag and national anthem.

Interestingly, this section was not added until 1954.

It was originally written in 1891 as "I pledge allegiance to my flag and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

My idea: shut the fuck up and get on with the game. It's a sporting event. 30 years ago we didn't sing anything. 10 years ago the players weren't even on the field. The only reason they're on the field now is because the Department of Defense paid the NFL big bucks to make a big pre-game rah rah spectacle about America in an effort to boost recruiting. Now it's turned into a self-important circle jerk. The last thing we need is to add even more nonsense to the start of games.

Kids are forced to repeat the Pledge of Allegiance every day at school. It's the definition of ad nauseum. It's not a patriotic vow, it's a banal platitude.

And how childish is it to think that our military volunteers are so egotistical that they need their dicks stroked at every sporting event and public function?

It's silliness. Get on with the game.

Is that why they make Kindergarteners recite it?

I agree with you, and it would be easy to get on with the game if the NFL wasn't an SJW breeding ground.

Ideally none of these issues would come to light, but I don't expect the playing of the national anthem to abruptly stop. And as long as the national anthem plays there will be protests for the foreseeable future.

I'm of the opinion that these should be countered. To some the pledge of allegiance is a meaningless recitation, but I think it would resonate with many people.

So you think we should sing the national anthem and then recite the pledge? A double shot of patriotism, then. Jingo jingo jingo

We should bring back the Bellamy salute, though.

Naw, you national socialist larpers give most people the creeps. Can't we go to a ball game without having to get hyped up about war or the flag or something? I just want to watch these roided out freaks try to murder each other while I maintain a steady buzz all weekend.

I doubt they feel they need it, but who doesn't like a nice dick stroking every now and then? Banana

I remember high school games did the national anthem back in the 70's. Did they not start this in pro sports until after 1987?

I like the OP's idea for the silent majority to let the America hating liberals know how they feel about this taking a knee bullshit. Better still, stay home, save your money, and watch college football.

We could try respecting their American right to protest.

Anyways, I'm expecting OP will be on a break from the forum after this. Next time try posting in the "NFL is dying" thread?
