Help me find a place to live
I have an illness which has taken me out of the game for some years. This makes me very sensitive to air pollution, humidity and heat among other things. Want to find a good location to spend the next several years at, were I can have access to not only nice punani, but also a good life in general with nice food, culture etc.

I want to live:

+ Right next to the ocean
+ Preferably in a small village or on the countryside, but close to a medium or large size city (but not close enough to have the air polluted by the city)
+ In a place that isn't too hot or humid, preferably not too rainy either
+ Have a good selection of puss that is relatively easy to score by a 7.5/10 tall White man

I have been thinking about:

- Italian countryside (my worry is that it's hard to get laid here, especially since I don't speak Italian)
- Spanish coast (maybe 20-30km from Valencia - only worry is that it could get boring and it's too hot in the summer. Also not sure how easy it is to bang locals.)
- Cornwall or the Scottish highlands (too rainy and far away from cities. Boring but beautiful.)

Any a bit more interesting/exciting places to look at? I'm hoping to find something in Asia or South America, but nothing that is too dangerous (like Bogotá) or too warm (like Thailand).

RE: Help me find a place to live
If you want mild temps and must be by ocean, some off the top of my head-

Netherlands (various cities)
Denmark (various cities)
Porto, Portugal
Hamberg, Germany (not on coast but plenty of water)
Biarritz, France
San Sebastian, Spain
Bilbao, Spain
Valparaiso, Chile
Lima, Peru

Of course, none of this takes into account any need you may have for a visa etc, just strictly weather.

Hoi An, Vietnam.

Great surfing, nice and cool during winter, cheap rent, close to big city/international airport ( da nang).

Thanks.

I am thinking of Japan perhaps, some smaller city south or north of Tokyo. Or some mountain city in Colombia, like Pasto.

Changing my criteria to only look for cities in SA or Asia.

RE: Help me find a place to live
Under which Japanese visa would you hope to qualify for residence?

Japan of course is great, and there are locations that meet your criteria, I didn't mention it because it's a little more difficult to stay there for an extended time compared to the other locations (given that you're a brit).

For your weather criteria of low humidity and cooler temps, in Asia you'd be looking at parts of South Korea, parts of Japan, and some areas of China. Some mountain towns in Vietnam and Thailand have cooler temps (though, humidity isn't low. How important is that for your health issue?). SK and Japan will be difficult to stay for an extended time.

South America, you are right to look in the mountains in Colombia, also Quito Ecuador is an option. Various locations in Peru. Chile has plenty of cities with mild temps.

A way to whittle down the options is to look at which countries you'd even have a chance of staying beyond the tourist visa period qualifying for residence. Some of these places it would be relatively easy showing just a modest recurring income, other places you would have to invest heavily in a business or property, and some others you have little chance of qualifying.

Thanks GlobalMan. However I do have multiple passports in different names, so I can easily do back to back visa runs.

I am really leaning towards Medellin or Bogota now (a villa in a nearby suburb). Elevation is usually good for me, as long as there isn't too much rain, humidity and pollution. We'll have to see. If Colombia doesn't work out, I'll try Japan.

Which locations would you recommend in Japan that could fit my criteria?

I find this highly unlikely. Can you explain?

Sure. I once changed my name and got a new passport. Then I changed my mind and changed back to my old name, while reporting my passport stolen. Thus, I now have two passports in two different names.

??

The passport you reported stolen has been invalidated.

Are you saying that your strategy for residing abroad relies soley on using an invalid passport?

Laugh7

Please go to Japan and try your method to stay there long term.

They dont check passports through computer systems from my experience. All they do is check for stamps.

Who's "they" specifically, and where have you successfully used your invalid passport to enter, if at all?

Again, so your plan to reside abroad hinges in large part on the hope that your invalid second passport will not be discovered for what it is? This is the foundation of your plans to move permanently abroad to a location you've never been to?

"They" means immigration. I thought only the US immigration would take your fingerprints. Japan does too?

I've used this method for years entering many different countries, and know other people who does as well. A friend of mine lived in the States for almost 10 years using this tactic, before fingerprint reading was enforced.
