I believe there are a lot of benefits to keeping plants throughout your house, but I notice people tend to buy the same ones. Surely at least one of you playboys has dug a little deeper in the houseplant world to find more unique ones that make for good conversation and an original look to your living space. Suggestions?

And are there any reputable websites online for ordering interesting plants?

Aloe Vera plants are pretty weird and cool:



They are a natural remedy for irritated skin. Girls like medicinal plants. If she has sun burn, just snap off a leaf and rub it on her:



I like rubber plants (Ficus elastica) which can grow to 8 feet and are pretty hard to kill:



If you aren't the plant nurturing type, start with what is hard to kill, and make a selection from there:

Interior green wall - nothing beats that green power:



If you can afford it, then you can hire a pro, but there are some guys who did it themselves with some work and brains.



Otherwise I like hanging plants of various sorts:


Actual jellyfish design plants that you can buy on Amazon - there are some various designs of that.

I also like glass terrarium designs - they are not that difficult to buy - you can add some figurines to it:





Personally I find some very alien designs and plants most interesting:



Large cactus plants are also quite cool in the living room.



And if you really have plenty of dough - 50 mio. $ +

a climate controlled indoor christmas tree with snowmachine and air-conditioning:



But probably works best only when running during winter time.

+1 aloe vera. And ficus, just because it's cool to say you have a ficus.

For a sunny warm spot get a cayenne pepper chilli plant. Visually pleasing when full of chillis. And can be used for cooking. When looked after a plant will keep a few years.
Even indoors the plant can get catterpillars. Pick them of when you see the bits of black poop underneath.

I really like these two:

Monstera deliciosa - it can grow very large (on the right on the picture below), which I love, but it can also be trimmed and the leafs used in place of flowers in vases.





Sansevieria trifasciata, aka snake plant - I have one of these at home. It's a very resillient plant and it takes very little care. Mine is already over 5ft tall but you can grow it in small pots and leave them over tables or shelves.

Thank you Ringo, I forgot all about those. A few ficus plants, rubber plants, and your delicious monsters, add some tiger striped pillows, and you got a jungle themed forest living room.

I also like this idea of "functional" plants. My buddy used to have a lime tree in his living room when we were in college and we'd just grab them off and cut them up when sitting around drinking Coronas. Lemons are more colorful and could be a nice touch.



Could grow some herbs in the kitchen or front entrance while I'm at it.

You can feed them any small critter. Their diets include arachnids and insects.

@BB functional plants are good. There's a lemon tree not far from me and I always snag a few lemons off of it for lemonade. I need a lime tree now.

I was at the garden store checking out plants and came across a pitcher plant. It's also carnivorous - those of you who've read Allen Carr's alcohol book might remember it as the plant that became his metaphor for the alcohol trap.

Anyhow, very interesting plant and looks pretty cool to boot.
