In addition to the very good reasons provided by GlobalMan, as a general rule Americans seem to have superior cell phone plans. For example, I have traveled to a handful of countries and yet I have never had to buy a phone card or a phone, because I have free data and texting worldwide. Typically, I must still use Whatsapp or a similar app because, in many nations, people still pay for texts with their local phone service.

The only reason that I am interested in this thread is that perhaps one day I may visit a country that is not covered by my plan or, far more likely, I may not want dozens of women and other relative strangers to have access to my permanent telephone number. Each year, I change data plans (through a business) and I get a free top-of-the-line smart phone in the process, which is great, but the phone is always locked -- which limits the ability to simply add a new SIM card when I travel. So, as an American, there are many reasons to be interested in this thread.

People must also have your telephone number to contact you on Whatsapp, so you cannot really hide your telephone number. There seem to be a few work-arounds to solve this problem, but I have not tried them.

After about a month I have to say the T-Mobile plan is pretty sick. Used Bell/Telus in Canada, great speed. England was a bit slow but I was at the airport so that may have been why. Israel I've been watching YouTube videos and streaming music with no issues st all. To correct my above price, it's $75 for unlimited data, the $95 is including calls and I believe a bit faster internet.
