So I recently stumbled onto this blog post by one Susan J. Fowler. Highlights:

When I reported the situation, I was told by both HR and upper management that even though this was clearly sexual harassment and he was propositioning me, it was this man's first offense, and that they wouldn't feel comfortable giving him anything other than a warning and a stern talking-to. Upper management told me that he "was a high performer" (i.e. had stellar performance reviews from his superiors) and they wouldn't feel comfortable punishing him for what was probably just an innocent mistake on his part.

Over the next few months, I began to meet more women engineers in the company. As I got to know them, and heard their stories, I was surprised that some of them had stories similar to my own. Some of the women even had stories about reporting the exact same manager I had reported, and had reported inappropriate interactions with him long before I had even joined the company. It became obvious that both HR and management had been lying about this being "his first offense", and it certainly wasn't his last. Within a few months, he was reported once again for inappropriate behavior, and those who reported him were told it was still his "first offense". The situation was escalated as far up the chain as it could be escalated, and still nothing was done.

Things were beginning to get even more comically absurd with each passing day. Every time something ridiculous happened, every time a sexist email was sent, I'd sent a short report to HR just to keep a record going. Things came to a head with one particular email chain from the director of our engineering organization concerning leather jackets that had been ordered for all of the SREs. See, earlier in the year, the organization had promised leather jackets for everyone in organization, and had taken all of our sizes; we all tried them on and found our sizes, and placed our orders. One day, all of the women (there were, I believe, six of us left in the org) received an email saying that no leather jackets were being ordered for the women because there were not enough women in the organization to justify placing an order. I replied and said that I was sure Uber SRE could find room in their budget to buy leather jackets for the, what, six women if it could afford to buy them for over a hundred and twenty men. The director replied back, saying that if we women really wanted equality, then we should realize we were getting equality by not getting the leather jackets. He said that because there were so many men in the org, they had gotten a significant discount on the men's jackets but not on the women's jackets, and it wouldn't be equal or fair, he argued, to give the women leather jackets that cost a little more than the men's jackets. We were told that if we wanted leather jackets, we women needed to find jackets that were the same price as the bulk-order price of the men's jackets.

Less than a week after this absurd meeting, my manager scheduled a 1:1 with me, and told me we needed to have a difficult conversation. He told me I was on very thin ice for reporting his manager to HR. California is an at-will employment state, he said, which means we can fire you if you ever do this again. I told him that was illegal, and he replied that he had been a manager for a long time, he knew what was illegal, and threatening to fire me for reporting things to HR was not illegal. I reported his threat immediately after the meeting to both HR and to the CTO: they both admitted that this was illegal, but none of them did anything. (I was told much later that they didn't do anything because the manager who threatened me "was a high performer").

There's more in the original post, but those are the bits that stood out to me.

I'm suspicious of sexual harassment claims - I lost one job for 'sexually harassing' a woman I never spoke to, and I suspect I've lost others because the princesses thought I was flirting with them (I wasn't; no interest in the sorts of women who work for corporations like it's their religion), but a couple things stood out to me.

First was the volume of complaints she detailed. The jacket thing in particular was really weird. The second was the fact that the guy harassing her was in an 'open relationship' (not to mention that his wife was having an easier time finding partners than he was ). Poly is the height of modern relationship chic right now, supposedly the bastion of openmindedness - when in fact it's the depths of creepy perversions and lack of boundaries. I would fully expect a poly male to behave like this.

While the feminists rail about male privilege and sexual harassment, it's the male feminists who adhere to the stereotypes they promote - and I would expect to find that Uber had embraced the feminist ethos of silicon valley. So I could see something like this happening, though I remain skeptical.

The author is recently married (I'm not going to try and read body language on a single photo), and has hired legal representation because of what's happening. I question the wisdom of her publishing this, but there might have been some attacks on her career from Uber, and she might have felt the need to explain everything that had occurred. I'd be interested in the forum's take on this.

EDIT: It also occurs to me that Fowler's complaints are primarily objective. She didn't quit because of hurt feelings, but because her career advancement was being threatened - which was the initial impetus for creating sexual harassment standards. IE: "Give me a blowjob if you want a promotion." She claims that her career advancement and education were being stymied by the fact that she didn't like some creep poly supervisor hitting on her, rather than claiming that it was a hostile work environment that impacted her feels. Hey - autists need to have careers too.

I'm inclined to think her claims are legitimate simply because they hired Eric holder to lead the investigation as a result of her blog post. Eric holder isn't the greatest, but he is the ex AG and that credential alone allows him to command a healthy premium for his service.

Because uber is held in such high regard by leftist SJWs, Holder is a perfect match since he holds high credibility with the same people. He claim no evidence of inappropriate conduct, and the faithful will believe it. They'll quietly pay settlements to those who complained.

The bigger problem for uber is that there is a toxic environment within the company. The president just resigned after only a few months on the job. He was hired to resolve these toxicity issues, and he threw in the towel after a few months because it was so bad.

I'll be surprised if the CEO isn't pushed out this year. The guy clearly isn't just an asshole, but an idiot as well.

Idiot manager ran autistic game on her first day on the job. After being told nothing would be done she let it go.

Then idiot manager continues his open relationship cuck game on every woman that comes into the company. Management covers for him with an easily verifiable false claim that it was his 'first mistake' and even worse alludes that he's getting away with it because he's a 'high performer'. High performers don't expose the company to potential lawsuits.

That sort of unprofessional behaviour is the sort of thing that merits a dressing down, but even autists need jobs. Women are remarkably poor judges of where the line is that separates autists from stalkers. The latter needs to be dealt with, but the former is harmless, if embarrassing and annoying.

In this case it seems as if it went further, turning into financial harassment, but then again it could also have been the case that shew as oversensitive and incompetent, and the two issues were unrelated rather than causal. If it's the former, then that speaks to some major mismanagement going on at Uber. The latter? Well, is it just me, or is mental illness on the rise lately?

My main issue is that this is bad business in the West. Senior management didn't even attempt to curb the managers behavior. Manager continues doing his thing because he isn't being punished and tries to absolve his behaviour with the women he's hitting on by saying 'I can't help it'. Eventually this situation catches up to the company.

She doesn't deserve a payday and he doesn't deserve to lose his livelihood, but you know what this reminds me of? A refugee that goes to a country, gets a provisional visa and then starts a spree of shoplifting and other petty crimes.

Should the guy be deported back to his warzone hellhole of a country because he stole a chocolate bar? No. Does he deserve to be punished because he keeps stealing chocolate bars and is jeopardising his visa for little to no gain? Yes because he knows the laws of the land.

The acid test for this bullshit had been noted by a previous poster. If the company was worth peanuts this busted lizard would have politely resigned and walked away. But it's Uber and she sniffed at a payday.

Here's what you do. You wait for some awkward fuckwit manager to come along and then throw him some subtle IOIs. He makes a pass at you and you politely fob him off. You send an email to his boss detailing how he made you feel uncomfortable and when his boss asks to talk to you in person you say "maybe I was reading into it to much, and I don't want to cause trouble, blah blah blah."

You do this three or four times and although you might seem like a serial annoyance to the boss of your boss nobody is going to fire you because that would be legal suicide at this point.

Eventually you give a strong IOI and resist the inevitable hard-pass. You fly off the handle and resign, citing "persistent sexual harassment which has been reported on many occasions and not dealt with by senior management".

When you go to court, the only hard and fast evidence anyone has is your emails indicating a series of passes made at you over the course of several months that apparently nobody was interested in dealing with.

Boom.

I will tell you a little real story I was witness of back when I was working for the lovely corporate world.

A VP of a major world-known company based in London transferred suddenly to a different company (where he got an equally cushy position). We were all a bit surprised, but did not think much of it.

Later we found out the real story behind it - his department was set on one entire floor of the building and he staffed it all with the most hot girls possible. He made it his policy to get only female co-workers and then fuck his way through the ranks. If a girl did not want to fuck him, then he fired her. And that guy was ugly and had a limp - he came from a wealthy family and had the arrogant bearings of an upper class British man so I guess there was some attraction there. Also it turned out that he was really bad at his job. He basically ran his department like a personal sex-fiefdom and there was nothing that any of the women or the company could do about it.

All the laws they put in place are simply part of the anti-male agenda. If I had a business in the US I would only hire only conservative men and the even more conservative women - run them through an anti-SJW test like that one business owner from the other thread.

Well, I doubt him hitting on her alone would have been sufficient for any harassment claim. It's the combo of getting other women to say he hit on them (presumably with chat log evidence like hers), and using that to prove that HR was lying about punishing him since they were repeatedly claiming to each woman that it was an isolated incident.

The fact that he was her manager also does demand that he maintain a higher level of professionalism as well, since coming on to a subordinate is always going to have an implication that you'll damage their career prospects if you get rebuffed. Think about it, every time this woman gets passed up for promotion she's going to think (correctly or incorrectly) that "Oh this is because I didn't fuck him, isn't it?" The fact that this guy not only pulled this stunt on lots of female employees, but didn't even do it in a plausibly deniable manner made him a ticking lawsuit time bomb that HR was moronic to ignore.

Another example of the nuclear bombs women have at their disposal in modern society.

I mean honestly she has nothing to lose and a lot to gain, so long as this reality exists I dont see things changing anytime soon.

I had a bitch almost threaten me with this in one job, a female colleague noted we were arriving at the office the same time a lot in the mornings, she playfully asked me were we banging, I said no.

I shared that story with the girl in question laughing about it, I had rebuffed her at a social not too long before in favor of someone else and I think it left a bad taste in her mouth.

Long story short she called me a liar, said I made the whole thing up. The woman who said it had to jump in and say it was her, otherwise I could have been in trouble because this person decided I was a liar and that was it.

Nobody knows what really went on, women are motivated by emotions more than logic. A perceived slight might be nothing more than a woman scorned trying to exact revenge for a petty issue, we dont know what might have been said between the two outside of text as has been alluded to by other posters.

I say give him the benefit of the doubt, I doubt she was all that offended, maybe if he was Cristian Grey she would not have a problem.

Many countries like Russia, China still have old rules where sometimes secretaries are hired also for sexual relief. Personal assistants are sometimes given clear instructions that this comes with the job - they get paid more for this.

Sometimes it leads to lifelong happy marriages, sometimes it leads just to passing marriages, sometimes to LTRs, sometimes only to good or bad dates, bangs, affairs, and most often it leads just to awkward moments when a man risks something and gains nothing.

When women can no longer deal properly with male advances then you know that you are either:

Alludes to only one specific instance where her and a female co-worker were "whistled at" by a group of 20 men passing by.

If Tesla does indeed have a factory floor staffed by low educated blue collar types, or especially janitorial temp staff, then good luck trying to reign in that behavior.

Currently, all chief executive positions are held by men at Tesla, and out of more than 30 vice-presidents, only two are women, she added.

“It’s shocking in this day and age that this is still a fight we have to have.”

Vandermeyden said that when complaints arise at Tesla about workplace issues or inequality, the response is often: “‘We’re focused on making cars. We don’t have time to deal with all this other stuff.’”

Tesla, founded in 2003, has gained international recognition for its battery-powered vehicles and “autonomous” driving technology, promoted by Musk, the ambitious entrepreneur who makes headlines for bold pledges about space travel, artificial intelligence, underground tunnels and driverless cars.

But Vandermeyden’s complaint, filed last fall, alleges that there were inadequacies in the quality testing of cars, and that she raised issues about the flaws she observed, which supervisors and male engineers had missed.

At the same time, she also experienced “unwelcome and pervasive harassment by men on the factory floor including but not limited to inappropriate language, whistling, and catcalls”, the lawsuit said.

Vandermeyden recounted to the Guardian an incident in 2015 when she said a group of roughly 20 men standing on a platform above her and a female colleague began taunting as they walked past.

“They all started hooting and hollering and whistling,” she said. “That can’t happen without somebody noticing … It’s disturbing.”

But her objections about sexual harassment and unequal pay only caused her more trouble, according to her complaint. The lawsuit alleges that after she raised concerns in the fall of 2015, management told her that in order to advance her position, she needed to achieve a performance standard in the factory that was unattainable and not expected of male engineers.

Despite positive performance evaluations, she felt she had to transfer out of general assembly to the purchasing department where she continues to work today, according to her suit.

The lawsuit said Tesla also denied her overtime pay, rest breaks and meal periods when she worked in sales, and retaliated against her for being a “whistleblower” when she raised concerns about cars “sold in a defective state”.

Some of her claims of mistreatment echo those that have recently emerged from Tesla factory workers, who allege that they have to work long hours for low wages in unsafe conditions. Musk has vigorously denied those claims and criticized an effort by workers to unionize.

Tesla initially declined to respond to the Guardian’s questions about Vandermeyden’s claims, but after publication of this report, released a statement on Tuesday defending its actions and refuting her allegations.

A spokesperson said that Tesla had hired a “neutral third party” last year to investigate her accusations and that an “exhaustive review of the facts” concluded her “claims of gender discrimination, harassment, and retaliation have not been substantiated”.

The company added in its statement: “Tesla is committed to creating a positive workplace environment that is free of discrimination for all our employees.”

Therese Lawless, Vandermeyden’s lawyer, criticized the investigation, saying, “We did not believe that it was a comprehensive report ... We vehemently disagree with their finding.”

Vandermeyden’s suit said she has suffered “mental distress” and “humiliation”.

In an interview, she said it takes a toll on her knowing that her work is undervalued.

“Equal pay is something that is essentially in the back of your mind every single day,” she said. “You have all these data points showing how you’ve exceeded some of the predecessors and improved on the system. It wears on you.”

Many women in similar positions choose not to speak up, Lawless said. “It’s very difficult for women to come forward. They’re concerned that their career is going to be hindered or jeopardized.”

For those who do raise complaints, dealing with HR can be a painful struggle, added Lawless, who represented former Reddit CEO Ellen Pao in her high-profile discrimination lawsuit against venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

“Most of my clients come in and say, ‘human resources isn’t helping me. They’re just protecting the company.’”

Vandermeyden recently took out a hefty loan to buy the cheapest version of the Model S Tesla car and has a reservation for the upcoming Model 3. She is hopeful her lawsuit and public comments won’t end her career at a company she loves: “I think they’re a revolutionary and innovative company.”

But she admitted she has doubts about her future.

“Half the time when I walk into work, I wonder if my badge is going to work.”

As for income - most men negotiate far harder and better. We know that, female HR managers know that, psychologists know that, only feminists deny that - this despite the fact that most HR managers are women and are obviously sabotaging their own gender across the board.

As for promotions - wonder why no one wanted to promote such a SJW who rather complained instead of giving in added performance? And even if - promotions are not a set matter even if you are a great performer either as a man or a woman. Sometimes you are treated well based on meritocracy and sometimes it is pure luck, well oiled ass-kissing or the sheer charisma of one person over another. Those who advance fast usually have multiple things going for them - high competence, high charisma, even specific looks, full hair, massive ego, but also people liking that person.

Probably most of her male colleagues could have equally strange reasons for a lawsuit, but unfortunately they are penis-holders and have no chance of making up bullshit lawsuits.
