This is nonsense of course.

A man faced with his own mortality does not want nor need pity, neither has it been offered in this thread. Instead we have seen respectful advice, support and interesting questions.

From your tone I can see you have never had to deal with any "real" problems in your life.

Death, bankruptcy, exile, loss of a child. What do you know of these? These are real problems that men must face with bravery and courage and above all, alone. This is not "how can I bang some girl?" The OP is wrestling with deep questions that men have been wrestling with for thousands of years and still haven't found a satisfactory answer.

There is something for all of us to learn here.

This hits me close to the heart. My father nearly passed away, he had stage 4 cancer and a 15% chance of living. 10 years in remission and he is still here with us, thank god. But man this thread hit me hard, hell, just reading this I've got a knot in my stomach... Shit.

I am not quite able to formulate a proper question or any other words for that matter at the time, if I have any I'll ask later... The only thing I can offer now is an Irish Toast that has really resonated with me:

1. what was going on in your life emotionally around the time your ocular cancer came into play? around the time you eye had to be removed? around the time the cancer metastized into your liver?

2. what happened between you and two of your wives? i'm mostly interested in the first one though for i think she left a bigger impact/scar on you than the other one.

Even though you said no suggestions on cancer treatment, I'd dare to suggest Dr. Simoncini's baking soda treatment.
Check it out. It seems legit.

As for dying, there is always reincarnation to reassure you.
It's not the first and not the last life you live.
After you die, you go to the other world to rest for 6 years max.
Then you have to return, in a different country, a different body, etc.
We do not remember, as we take a different mind when reincarnate,
and we do not have sufficiently exanded consciousness to know.

Our consciousness can be developed thru meditation to such an extent
that you can know not only what you did in past lives but also what will happen in the future.
But it's a different topic.

Also, there are various other worlds. And it depends on how you live to which world you will go.
There are hellish worlds, in which people suffer, if they do wrong while on earth.
And even if you have not much time left, if you pray and meditate, you can improve your karma,
and go to a better world.

You can believe it or not, but it's just my take based on what I've read in SEA scriptures.

Sat down and watched the entire hour of that podcast. Sad to admit I had no idea who Private Man was until he made this blog and the way he has handled this news made me really interested in his story and what he had to say. I'm sorry it took me until near his death to find out about him but I guess that's the way it is for a lot of great and inspirational people. Like Vaun, there are a few things that I really took to heart from this video that I absolutely agree with and/or Private Man convinced me to think about the subject further.

1. Traveling while you're young- I wholeheartedly agree with this sentiment. I'm near 23 and haven't seen a lot of the world yet but I have taken a lot of travel opportunities as I've become more independent. I'm lucky to have seen half of the United States already and am working my way to seeing more of Asia. My family thinks I'm making the wrong decision doing a big solo trip to the other side of the world so soon but my argument to them is the 20s is the best time in your life to do outlandish things and to truly get the most out of travel so I intend to do so in my 20s to the best of my ability. So far I'd say I'm on the right track taking more trips in the last two years than almost my first 20 years combined. Like Private Man, I'm usually the guy in my friend group that'll say yes to a crazy trip idea and I've gained that reputation in a positive degree (except my parents who have a heart attack every time I leave for the next trip).

2. Singles events- I didn't really think this would be something in the man's advantage but Private Man has convinced me to research this subject more. As someone that relies more on online game, I'm trying to work on that but the truth is I don't get presented with many social opportunities in my current situation to meet girls. However, I agree that in-person cold approaches that land girls are a lot more rewarding in my experience, as this is how I got my longest relationship with an ex-girlfriend and a couple of other memorable girls I dated. Definitely something I am going to try to make an effort to do more of.

3. The bubble for kids- One thing that struck me in this video was when Private Man and Steve talked about the bubble for kids to socialize and interact in this generation. I hate that it appears to be getting smaller and smaller. Very soon we will reach a point where kids won't want to leave the house at all if we're not there already. My dad always talks to me about his childhood and how him and the neighborhood kids would always go out and play or hangout. I think that's something we've lost with the growth of internet, smartphones, and overall paranoia about the world. I think parents are sheltering their kids to be frank. I've even heard stories about the traditional Halloween being abolished in some towns and replaced by cars in parking lots and malls. If I ever have kids, I will vouch not to be that parent that doesn't let their kids go outside and experience life. You have to loosen the chain or they'll never be ready to be free. Steve said it best in this podcast, the world is safer than ever, so my question is why is the bubble for kids to go out and explore regressing?

4. College degrees- I can't speak for the majority since I was in a more fortunate situation with this having my family cover education costs, thus avoiding debt for me personally, but I do think this is an issue in the United States. I took the cautious route for their financials of going to county college the first two years and then a cheap state school the last two years. I think the next generation will shift more in this direction or go the trade school route, as I believe these are viable options if you major in the right field. I will say after college I figured out what I gained and didn't gain from the experience. College I believe teaches you more about social and living conditions in the real world at a beginner level than actually learning anything in a classroom. Honestly, 95% of my classes in four years were a waste of time that I didn't really learn anything from and maybe put 10% effort into. I put my brain on auto-pilot through most of college and still got over a 3.0 GPA in four years but I would be foolish to believe this alone made me smart. Like I said, college gives you a small taste of independent social and living conditions, but I believe it's just a bigger bubble than high school whereas in the real world, that bubble bursts completely.

I watched the podcast, got a lot out of it.

I agree you have to do stuff when you are young, like travel, take risks and explore and adventure.

As you get older you lose the inclination and ability to do those things, and it might lead to regret.

I would've suggested Ayurveda and some world experts in that space with deep understanding of human physiology instead of the snake oil & diets propagated by morons, but hey its his choice so..
