Easiest way to learn dancing
Title says it all.

Almost every girl I meet invited me to dance with her at some point(either at a club/edm festivals / parties). I cannot dance.

I'm starting to feel that I'm missing out on an opportunity because dancing is a pretty easy way to connect with a girl. Yesterday, this new girl called me out of the blue and asked me to come to this rave party because her boy flaked on her. Fuck, I don't want to miss an easy opportunity like this once again.

So how can I learn dancing fast? I just want to dance decently without looking like a idiot.

This is a thread about my dancing and how I got good.

The main way was YouTube, practice, mirrors, practice, videotaping, practice. Oh and did I mention practice.

Dance classes?? for 1-2 months
1-2 times per week for 1-2 hours per class. Great place to meet (flexible and sexy) girls and hopefully, some *real* men. They are pretty cheap in India (atleast in Hyderabad). So, that's a bonus

RE: Easiest way to learn dancing
Go out and join a local dance group. Learn the basics and really master them before moving on to advanced moves. I've joined lots of free salsa and swing dancing groups and had a great time. That's in spite of the fact that I have two left feet. After a while, if you get over any feelings of self-consciousness, you'll have fun and that's when you start to grow as a dancer. Youtube also has a wealth of knowledge like Iso was mentioning above. Still, videos can only take you so far. Practice, practice, practice makes perfect. Slow down the moves when you are practicing WITHOUT music. Then you can break them down and master them. When the music is on, you just speed things up once you have the mechanics down pat.

Sign up for a dance class. You can't exactly learn proper dancing in front of a mirror at home, it takes two to dance.

What's proper dancing?

Just because it's not your style doesn't mean it's not "proper" as you put it. There is talent in all dancing styles.

I agree you should sign up for a class in addition to practicing at home. Just make sure the teacher leaves space for some individuality and creativity with your dancing as I know some people that have been to dance class and they end up generic background dancer #3.

How does it work if you show up without a partner to these swing group events? Does everyone else have a partner? Is everyone over 60 years old? Are you dancing with other guys because there are no single girls? How does it work?

Most dance classes welcome singles. Women always outnumber men at dance classes. Age ranges are older in smaller towns. You cannot do couples or social dancing with another guy if you are a guy. Men are leaders and women are followers (love the red pill theme there). The foot work for the guys is different than the girls. Sign up for a beginner class, get there and have fun. Don't forget the breath mints. Salsa is easy to learn and West Coast Swing is great for popular music. Another avenue for learning dance steps and rhythm is line dancing. The steps that you learn from popular line dances are taken from other forms of social dance. between line dancing and couples social dancing class you can dance by yourself or dance with someone who knows how to dance.
Good luck and have fun!

RE: Easiest way to learn dancing
This is broad question, and there aren't really a lot of hacks to quickly learn how to dance well. I've had very little formal training, but have to learn and perform choreography every now and then, and here's my 2 cents:

A pre-requisite is an ability to move well, being strong, agile, coordinated, and graceful. If you haven't had any dance training, being good at martial arts or other dynamic sports helps a lot.

Fake it till you make it. If it's just dancing to EDM at a club, it's just moving and hopping around while tripping on acid or something for the most part. Sure, there are cool dance styles, but unless you're the type who wants to be the guy in the middle of the floor who everyone is watching, don't worry about it.

What really helped me in terms of body movement is pretty simple: watch videos of young Elvis Presley, and copy the way he moves his hips, legs, knees, and torso so fluidly, using a mirror or camera for reference. The key to looking good and not stiff and awkward while dancing is a freely moving core and hips. Also, look up and practice pop n' lock tutorial videos, as well as videos for classic mime techniques, like moving dots, push/pull, invisible box, etc. These really help to develop crisp and controlled movement.

When it comes to partnered stuff like salsa, tango, swing, waltz, etc, the footwork is easy enough to look up and practice, but to really learn how to lead properly, you'll need a chick to practice with. like others have said before. If you've got an interested girl, that will suffice, or you can go to a class. The basic visual/aesthetic concept with a lot of partner dance is that the woman is a flashy ornament that the man skillfully manipulates (in swing, you pretty much grab the girl and spin and toss her around while she makes it look interesting, in paso doble, the man is a bullfighter and the woman is his red cape, etc), so keep that in mind.

Honestly, "fake it till you make it" is good advice in many situations, and it's great when it comes to dancing.

I didn't refer to a particular dancing style. What I meant by 'proper dancing' was self-confidence on the dance floor and the man's ability to lead. Both of which are very important in dancing, and almost impossible to learn by dancing alone in front of a mirror.

EDM is just jumping up and down when the beat drop, you don't need dance classes.

If you go to rave parties, everyone there doesn't know how to dance. You just need to relax, stop giving fuck what people think and enjoy. Check this guy.

Does he look like he knows how to dance? Or maybe he just DGAF.

If you for some reason really want to learn how to dance, I recommend salsa classes.

I think its important to divide dancing into two categories: dancing with yourself, and dancing with a partner. There's a big difference.

You can just DGAF and that works well, but dancing with a partner - going up to a girl and dancing with her - is much more challenging and requires a skillset.

The bulk of hip hop, jazz, modern, ballet etc. is about dancing alone and takes years to master. Some of that skill can be taken to the club.
