A heartwarming story during a cold winter (did you know earlier this week, 49 of 50 states had snow on the ground? Crazy!) --

Quote:BURLESON (CBSDFW.COM) – Early Sunday morning 85-year-old Lindell Marbut and his caretaker were rattled by a loud crash outside his country home off of FM 2738 in Johnson County.

“I heard this big boom,” Marbut said. “She come back there screaming and hollering, ‘Somebody has wrecked out in the driveway and their car is on fire!’ ”

While his caretaker ran to get a neighbor, Marbut walked outside as best he could with his cane to see an overturned, burning car.

“And then I heard a woman, her voice. Screaming,” Marbut said.

Marbut went to the broken windshield and used the only tool he had to help the driver.

“I pulled this windshield out with my walking cane,” Marbut recalled. “And here comes a woman’s (the woman who was driving) arm. I got a hold of her and pulled her out.”

Marbut somehow dragged the woman to safety, then went to the back of the vehicle and pried open the rear hatch.

“My neighbor over here was hollering to get away from it, the gas tank might explode,” he said. “But I guess I was lucky.

“I finally got it open enough where you could see that girl’s head sticking out of there.”

Marbut’s caretaker jumped in and pulled the teenager out to safety.

“The tires started exploding, but I didn’t think about that,” Marbut said. “All I was thinking about was getting those girls out of there. I couldn’t think about them burning to death.”

He has now had time to reflect on the lives he saved in his driveway. But Marbut doesn’t think he is a hero.

“I’ve lived my life,” he said. “Rather than standing by there watching somebody burn, if I can help them I’m going to do it. I’d do the same thing again.”

Both women survived and are expected to recover from their injuries.

Is this man a hero or just a regular fellow who, one put into an extraordinary circumstance, did what most of us would do, e.g. try to save the women? I think that the latter is probably true. Most of us would jump into to action to save the young women from certain death (well, maybe not this seemingly uncharitable bloke). Regardless, it is a nice story with a very old man still spry and mindful enough to save two people from a fiery death.

This guy is from a different generation.
He was raised with a completely different set of moral and code of honor.
I can't imagine a sjw/millennial type doing anything close to thise. At best they would call 9 1 1 and at worse they would pull out their phone a record this to post on the internet.

Great story. I'm sure this woman will be grateful to this man. It's nice to see people still do that in this day and age even though it was an old man.

Guys like you are exactly why people are turned off from the manosphere and this site. Once you get past hating women you will realize that her LIFE was saved.

He didn't buy her dinner or anything and she flaked. He saved her from impending death. Anyone will be grateful of that. At the very least the the person who saved their life.

Maybe she will maybe she won't. Maybe she remembers what happens and pays it forward. I know plenty of women who aren't vacuous attention whores. Now the whole purpose of this is to get back to what 2wycked originally asked. How do you think people of today would act?

I agree with Kinjutsu. I think majority of people would stand around clutching their pearls and/or videotaping it. But I know myself and plenty of the guys I've met off the forum are people who act on things. I know I would be helping her out regardless if I knew what her actions later would be. She can be petty after all she likes....I just saved lives.

I hope the women don't sue the old man for breaking their windshield or oppressing them with that phallic-symbol-of-a-patriarchy cane of his.

I know I am conditioned to see dark future scenarios for something that should be seen as unquestionably noble and good.

FWIW gas tanks DO NOT EXPLODE! I watched my Honda burn right in front of me with a full tank of gas, only thing that happened is once the fire hit the gas tank it accelerated burning a little, hardly an explosion.

I've seen living things burn alive, not a nice thing to witness. To see humans burning alive in a car would haunt me so my best course of action would be to try and help. However it all depends on the stage of fire you come across.

Don't think for one second you could reasonably survive intact when a car is burning hot enough to melt the body of the car. Sadly, those inside would be done for.

I am shocked that so many forum members are positive she will be grateful.

This could go in any direction, seriously, and I am speaking from experience.

I saved a woman's life once and it had no effect whatsoever on her, she brushed it off like it was nothing.

This guy is a hero, he is the best, let's leave it at that. He was put to the test, and lived up to his own values in an extreme situation.

That is the whole story here.

He is probably spinning other damsels-in-peril-plates.

^^^. Lol, I do like the .gif and the pic. Anyways nowadays, I been thought to always wait for medics and police when things happen. If you do something while trying to save a person and it goes wrong; you could be trouble for interfering.

Depends on the tank design, pretty sure all newer tanks have safety shit built in and on them.

I think this thread needs to step away from the rescued woman and her reaction, she was saved, that is all.

Our focus needs to be on the man, his heroism and wherewithall to quickly adapt to an extreme fluid situation should be admired, reflected upon and (god forbid) emulated.
He is a true representation of what we should be in dire situations. Move fast, think fast, ignore the weaklings who do nothing yet give you commands.

That's a fair concern, but depending on where you live you have to see if you are protected by Good Samaritan Laws. I don't know where you live, but in the states if you do what you can to save someone's life you are protected.

"Good Samaritan laws generally provide basic legal protection for those who assist a person who is injured or in danger. In essence, these laws protect the “Good Samaritan” from liability if unintended consequences result from their assistance."

We don't use text-speak on this forum and we do our best to spread truth, not guesses.

All 50 US states have some kind of Good Samaritan Law. They differ in application, but overall if you are not doing anything grossly negligent when trying to assist someone you won't be held liable. In some cases you can be held liable for not doing anything if there is reasonable assistance you could provide.

It's not about who or what he saves.
It is about being selfless in a moment of need. It is about placing someone else's life ahead of yours in a dire situation, to take charge and do what needs to be fucking done right then and there, despite everyone else's bitching.

That is what it is to be a man.
