RE: Peter Thiel's connection to the alt right
Quote:When Mark Zuckerberg defended board member Peter Thiel’s $1.25m donation to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign this week, the Facebook CEO emphasized that support of the candidate did not necessarily constitute “accepting sexual assault”.

But part of Thiel’s 1995 book The Diversity Myth: Multiculturalism and Political Intolerance on Campus suggests that he may sympathize more with Trump – who has recently been accused of sexual assault and misconduct by several women – than with his victims.

The PayPal co-founder attempted to discredit the idea of date rape – he wrote that the definition of rape had been erroneously expanded to include “seductions that are later regretted”. He also suggested that the movement to combat it on college campuses was motivated by animosity toward men.

Dingle.

Thiel is moving the needle in the right direction. Until I see massive evidence otherwise, he is a net benefit to everything that is still good about the west.

RE: Peter Thiel's connection to the alt right
Sounds like strange times make strange bedfellows (no homo pun intended)
I was reading about the Jacobite rebellion. Bonnie Prince Charlie, a Catholic, led a revolt against the Dutch
monarch and the Anglican Church, and he unsurprisingly had support from Catholics, but also from Lutherans, Baptists, Quakers
and anybody else who didn't recognise the legitimacy of William of Orange. They didn't share Charles' view that he was 'the man
that's born to be king' but they hardly needed to to hate Anglican rule.
The enemy of my enemy, etc,.

Not surprisingly, the Guardian has disabled comments on that article.

True. Also "Maritial Rape" reeks of bullshit made for divorce lawyers to leverage in court.

RE: Peter Thiel's connection to the alt right
News article from last summer:

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2...-to-be-gay

Quote: Peter Thiel tells Republican convention: 'I am proud to be gay'

Ben Jacobs in Cleveland
Friday 22 July 2016

Thiel, the mogul who helped to found PayPal and was an early investor in Facebook, brushed off concerns over his party’s anti-LGBT platform.

Silicon Valley billionaire Peter Thiel became the first openly gay speaker since 2000 at the Republican national convention on Thursday, just days after the GOP passed one of the most conservative platforms in its party’s history. Thiel, the controversial mogul who helped to found PayPal and was an early investor in Facebook, to cheers said: “I am proud to be gay. I am proud to be a Republican. But most of all I am proud to be an American.” The crowd then erupted into a short chant of “USA! USA!”

The GOP platform includes a reference to conversion therapy and repeated statements in opposition to gay marriage. The platform committee even rejected an effort to mention LGBT people as victims of terrorism by Isis. Thiel brushed off these concerns. “I don’t pretend to agree with every plank in our party’s platform. But fake culture wars only distract us from our economic decline.” He mocked the growing concern about access to bathrooms for transgender people. Instead, he told the crowd: “When I was a kid, the great debate was about how to defeat the Soviet Union. And we won. Now we are told that the great debate is about who gets to use which bathroom. This is a distraction from our real problems. Who cares?”

Instead, Thiel made a case for Trump as a fellow businessman. “I’m not a politician. But neither is Donald Trump. He is a builder, and it’s time to rebuild America.” Thiel is one of the rare Republicans in the Democratic bastion of Silicon Valley. A California delegate for Trump, Thiel had previously supported the 2012 presidential candidacy of libertarian icon Ron Paul. Thiel has more in common with Trump than just a conservative outlook and vast fortunes – they also share a prickly relationship with the media. Trump has banned a number of press outlets from his events and pledged to open up the libel laws. Thiel notoriously funded a lawsuit against the website Gawker in effort to shut the gossipy blog down. The website had publicly outed Thiel in 2007. There have been two other openly gay speakers at the Republican convention, according to the Huffington Post: Steve Fong and Jim Kolbe.

Thiel is considering a run for governor of California. As a Trump support, I don't see how he stands a chance, but you never know.

Peter Thiel considering bid for California governor http://politi.co/2iUMc8d

Take care of those titties for me.

I wouldn't write off his chances. Trump might have lost California, but after a year or so of winning bigly, he might become a massive asset in Thiel's corner.

As I don't see the benefit in bowing down to any glorified walking meat-bag.
Nor looking up to any one individual as a hero.
I'm not too fussed when this person or that person has some questionable or unsavoury aspect to their character.
I'll focus on their actions.

Which is why it's probably best to view all politics as mere comedic theater.

You can't trust any politician & it's all just one big sordid joke at the same time.

RE: Peter Thiel's connection to the alt right
I guess this can be the general Thiel thread since another doesn't exist and not really worth creating one for Thiel because he isn't in the public sphere much.

Anyways, Thiel just did a long form interview with Dave Rubin which is pretty interesting.

But the most interesting was a video linked in the comments. Thiel in 1996, more than 20 years ago, warned about the coming negative effects of multiculturalism and diversity.

RE: Peter Thiel's connection to the alt right
Peter Thiel is incredibly aware. He's tight with NRx's main writer Curtis Yarvin meaning that he's openly flirting with anti-feminism, anti-democracy, anti-multiculturalism, etc.

The trouble is, even as rich as this guy is, its a drop in the bucket compared to the combined might of silicon valley crushing us. The best gift this guy could give is to push Trump to regulate big tech. Even if he poured money into building alternatives, apple/google/amazon will just ban his products from their app stores/search engines/web services etc.

Peter Thiel would make a fantastic president. He's too honerable to do it but he should play the gay card at every opportunity.

He would! Unfortunately, he wasn't born on American soil, so he cannot ever be (short of an amendment to the constitution.)

He also doesn't have a family. Nobody can be elected President without a family. It's just kind of the way it works.

Now Trumpie, he's got 3 families. That's why he won. Banana

Yea but that's a silly notion in a republic. Presidents don't need progeny. And even amongst monarchs, we had successful virgin queens and monastic Kings.

Yes but he has Hillary! She was the beauty queen who got him all those votes.

Nobody could be elected talking like Trump...until Trump did it. Also, being gay gives him way more flexibility in the family department, because he can adopt a black son, a Hispanic son, an asian daughter, and another photogenic white daughter and nobody can complain without being "homophobic". The possibilities are endless, and he can even continue to do it strategically throughout a Presidential career. Except of course for the foreign born thing.

I found Thiel and Rubin's embrace of generational stereotypes to be quite annoying. It's not that simple.

Thanks for the talks with Rubin though. Thiel is still very insightful as always. He is one of the few truly intelligent people in Silicon Valley.

I would never vote for a woman or a gay. Possible exception for Thatcher if I was British.

My tradition before Trump was vote on the ballot questions because I've been black pill on uniparty scum since childhood.

I suppose, if Thiel was the candidate, I would consider a vote of it mattered (Massachusetts resident the state would take Pol Pot over even a lame like Paul Ryan.)

Obviously Thiel can not announce a run for California governor right now as it is a top two state but I think he has a real chance if he announces his candidacy for 2022. He has many advantages: he is rich (From silicon valley), he is smart (really important for Californians for some reason), and has the crossover appeal. If he does run I think he can beat Gavin who is a shoe in for the Governor's Mansion.
