I would setup your trip so you are maximizing your time by ensuring where you are spending your Thursdays thru Sundays in either Dallas, Houston and Austin. You could then travel to these other smaller cities on the other days of the week and see attractions. But you would want to bundle San Antonio with Austin because San Antonio is only an hour away from Austin and it has limited tourist attractions (really the main ones are the Alamo and the Riverwalk), I would simply choose to go there for a day on a Wednesday or a Monday and you can visit these sites and enjoy some good Mexican food. I don't think the current weather would make for a good time to go to Galveston, but if this is in the Spring or Summer, obviously the beaches would make it a more attractive option. I think you will want to spend the bulk of your time in Austin and Houston. So I would say something like this:

Austin- 6 days (6th street area)
San Antonio- 1 day
Houston- 8 days (Downtown and Midtown and The Heights)
Dallas- 3 days (Uptown and Lower Greenville)

You should also factor in that you will burn a good 5 or 6 hours with travel to each city and getting settled in when traveling from Austin to Dallas and then when traveling from Dallas to Houston.

I’d also include San Marcos on this list. It’s in between Austin and San Antonio and home to tx state, which has the hottest college girls in Texas. It’s a fun city and in the summer you will see tons of hot chicks floating the river(which I recommend doing). New braunsfels is another city I recommend but only during the river season when all the hot girls are there.

Dallas and Houston are your tier one cities, so you decide based on vibe how much time you will spend in each. Dallas is your old money city, narcissistic, lots of sorostitutes, etc. You have Dallas, you have Highland Park, and you have the North Dallas Suburbs, those are the only places that should be on your radar. Houston is more diverse, more latin, has a bit of creole flavor, and some asian flavor. Houston is also really spread out.

Austin is the best really. So maximize your time there in the 6th street area/ downtown. There are other places in ATX that will be bougie or hipster, that you can research. 6th street is really just a mix of everything. I haven't seen much of suburbs/periphery of Austin, but from what I have seen, it in some way mirrors Dallas or other major cities--there are a lot of good opportunities out there because you have a lot of wealthy towns.

There's also the question of university towns, which is a valid one. San Marcos, which is 30 mins or so from Austin is a good option and it is party central for Texas Universities (texas state univ. is here). Good quality here. Texas A&M in Bryan/ College Station also would be a good choice because the university is so big. I hear good things about the place from my friends. Austin doesn't have to be mentioned, because you will be there anyway, and I think it's outgrown the designation of university town since it got so freaking big. You have Denton too (45 mins from center of dallas), which fairly recently was being called the new Austin for it's laid back vibe, bohemian sensibilities, and live music.

Anything else is up to you depending on what you're looking for.

I suspect San Antonio is attracting a lot of people who left Austin because traffic and high cost of living. Plus, there is no place where you will find better Mexican food than in San Antonio.

I have never had genuinely good Mexican food at a restaurant in Texas/the entire US.

The best Mexican food is made at home, and the really best Mexican food is made in southern Mexico. I might have my biases, but to me northern Mexican food really is the same five ingredients just shuffled around and called by different names.

San Antonio might be attracting talent, but for as long as I've know it, SA has been a cholo factory and the trashiest big city in Texas.

I'm in Lubbock Texas for a couple of days doing a road-trip with this Texas Latina I have known for all of one week. hahahah. I just spent a few hours working at a Starbucks right next to Texas Tech while my girl is taking care of some family business here for the day and it was packed with good typical Texas college talent.

If I get around here and see more sights this weekend I'll write up a mini-datasheet.

Any people from here?
