I personally have had two debts cleared on my credit report and it helped raise my score significantly. These were medical related so it YMMV. It can even help clear your report if collections agencies passed around your debt enough and can't provide a solid paper trail.

I originally encountered this in reddit and it helped clear up a lot of confusion for me. It can also help you clear paid debts off the credit report if need be, I had 2 collection agencies keep paid debts on my credit report.
