Anybody have some info on Hoboken? Doesn't seem like it has been talked about very much on here.

Lived there for years and live near it today. It's really a bedroom community for Manhattan, with a concentration of bars and restaurants near the waterfront.

Don't drive there. There isn't anywhere to park. Plenty of transportation options to Manhattan. The PATH train runs 24/7.

There are quite a few bars in Hoboken, but most the action takes place around 1st/2nd and Washington.

A lot of young people in Hoboken and a lot young people in Jersey go out there Friday/saturday

Would you recommend living there? How are logistics for pulling NYC girls? I'm assuming it would be challenging to get them to travel out to Jersey.

Yeah good luck with that one. Unless she's from Jersey too, it'll be difficult. You'll be a "bridge and tunneler" and looked down upon by actual Manhattan girls or tourist staying there. Why go an hour to your spot and back when they can shack up with the guy who lives in Lower East Side.

Maybe it's changed since I was up there but I doubt it.

Hoboken is the land of $1million brownstones. It is very expensive, which is why I moved out. Apartments are expensive. Expect to pay $2k+/month for a good 1 bedroom.

The other reason I was glad to go is that Hoboken was originally an island. Most of the city is filled in waterways and salt marsh. Hoboken floods... a lot.. catastrophically during Sandy.

With that said, when I did live there, I traveled often into Manhattan to visit my then girlfriend (Columbia U grad student). Getting to Manhattan from Hoboken is REALLY easy. I went to her place far more often than she came to mine. Simple reason... lots more to do and see in NYC.

If you are looking to stay someplace more affordable, I would look at Jersey City in the Heights or around the Journal Square area (Downtown Jersey City is Hoboken expensive now). You could get an affordable 'crash pad' and have a lot more $$$ left to spend in NYC.

the only good reason to live there is if you cannot afford to live in Manhattan.
