He injured his leg didn't he? Leaving him unable to do his trademark high kick.

Although I am definitely a JCVD fan, I was disappointed with the Kickboxer movie. It really misrepresented Muay Thai. He was being an arrogant little bitch in that movie when he walked out of the legit Muay Thai gym that laughed at him when he declared he wanted to fight the best, as soon as possible.

The training that he eventually did, under private tutelage, was just a regurgitation of his Bloodsport training- Kung Fu and Karate type training. The only thing different was that he kicked a tree. Half the shit he did to train in the movie was more like The Karate Kid doing the crane stance in the ocean than authentic Muay Thai training.

I did Kung Fu for years and now train Muay Thai. I have immense respect and appreciation for both, but do not like to see them conflated and misrepresented. He should have known better. Or he probably did, but tailored the movie too much for the ignorant audience that wants the same shit they saw in The Karate Kid and Bloodsport.

A Belgian actor in American movie about an ancient eastern martial art involving fictional characters produced in the 1980's is bound to have some "cultural misappropriation".

He was fighting Tong Po to avenge his Brother. TONG PO!!!!

You are going to have to let this one pass in JCVD Appreciation Thread.

Ran into him at a bar on Miyagi's in Hollywood in 2001... guy was cool as shit - he teamed up with Tone Loc to shoot pool with my buddy and me. Then afterwards he started to drunkenly ask people around him "You want to see my kick?" Everyone said "hell yeah" and he began spinning around on one leg while roundhouse kicking and pirouetting as the crowd cheered him on.

RE: Jean-Claude Van Damme appreciation thread
I don't know all the details but he is actually a very troubled dude. In the 90's he developed an extreme cocaine addiction to the tune of $10,000/week on straight up his nose. Attended drug rehab unsuccessfully, and was diagnosed with extreme bipolar disorder which he takes medication for. He's also been married like half a dozen times. Current marriage is a shit show - they have two kids, then he cheated on her with that bitch from Street Fighter, they got divorced, then got re-married a few years latter, then were going to get divorced again last year but called it off.

Most all of his problems he has brought on himself. He's a cool actor and one hell of a martial artists be he's certainly no saint.

RE: Jean-Claude Van Damme appreciation thread
Great thread. I remember the first time I saw Bloodsport, me and my friends watched it back to back. Dads were in on it too, all guys just loved him.

Later in life a girlfriend at the time worked the hotel desk in the building he lived in and would tell me all sorts of stories as she knew I was a fan. The way she talked about him, being a friendly guy with odd tastes, and loved women like any man should. Flirted with my girl all the time.

I would see him out in the club, unfortunately not with my girl otherwise we would have partied together. He is down to earth and always had a smile on. Not the best fashion sense, but he had that no fucks given smile and would dance his ass off.

Not much of a celebrity hag but I did make sure to shake his hand and tell him I was a big fan of his as a kid.

RE: Jean-Claude Van Damme appreciation thread
Excellent interventions from JCVD last Saturday, live on TV. The socialist French "Minister for Equality Women-Men" Marlene S., was here too, and she was saying that "all women must work". JCVD interrupted her by a sharp whistle. And then, to her stunned face, he said: "If all women work, who'll take care of children at home"? Banana

Furious, the French minister told him he was "mansplaining her", while the gay TV anchor erupted in a rage. Well done Jean-Claude! Troll master recognized!

Note that JCVD, in great form, also told the weak gay TV anchor, that he, JCVD, was "somewhat afraid of him, but prepared to run, fast", as gay men are known to run after straight men. And, laughing, he added that gay men could perfectly marry, "and dogs, too", at which point the socialist minister accused him of being... Hitler literally!

See at 16'20, JCVD whistling at the female Minister, to stop her in her tracks, and telling her "don't impose feminism on women who just want to raise children":

The man is a famous and rich actor who started from the bottom who could kill her with one high kick and he probably went back to his $10M Villa on Hollywood.

While this cunt for sure sucked and fucked to get in her position and will be completely forgotten in 5 years.

She used to write cheap porn novellas and Cosmo-style sex guides for sluts under a pseudonym.
