Got a tear in my eye. Holy hell.

To meet death with bravery like that... His brothers will see and hear his last words, and it will put steel in their spine. Which makes his sacrifice significant.

(His Islamist killers were later shot dead in separate incidents, so at least that's something.)

The video description says he and his cousin were camping in Dagestan and a group of muslims just happened to come across them and kill them....I hope that's not very common in Russia.
If their normal areas of operation are that dangerous I would think he'd be armed at all times.

With all due respect to the dead, I don't think this is an appropriate comparison. This is a cop slaying caught on tape, the soldier was special forces who self-sacrificed for his mission.

Neither is more or less noble...just apples and oranges.

A few notes:

That area of Russia has a smoldering separatist insurgency. It was largely put down in the second Chechen war and ongoing cleanup, but some wahhabis remain.

This guy was Muslim like his four attackers. The guys who encountered and then shot him were well-armed insurgents hiding in the woods from government forces, not chumps on a day hike. The insurgents likely ambushed them, then put them to the ground and searched their things. He was killed for his law enforcement affiliation.

RIP.

I'm not saying one is more or less of a noble act.

I'm pointing out the pure balls of steel it takes to be stoic and to look your captors directly in the eyes when you know death and/or torture awaits you. I'm sure a lot of Russians are familiar with that nasty beheading video of a russian soldier.

At least with a bomb you get the courtesy of perhaps a quick death and at least you know it's your own people doing it.
